Guest oliphillips Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 I fully charged it last night and this morning I made a 5 minute call. This killed 5% !! Also if I play something like Angry Birds it will use up about 1% every minute. Something is wrong, surely? Ideally I wanna be able to make a few calls a day, a few texts, maybe use the internet a few times and have a few games on it each day, and at the moment struggling to do it. Installed Powertutor and I am using 400mW with nothing running, no 3g, bt, wifi, gps or tasks running and I have the screen brigthness set on the lowest. When i enable 3g, it very quickly goes up to over 1000. How much battery life do you guys get? Any tips?
Guest Just Wondering Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 Have you considered setting the phone to 2g only during Times where you only need the phone for calls ?
Guest oliphillips Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 (edited) Have you considered setting the phone to 2g only during Times where you only need the phone for calls ? Thanks! I can have a little 3g - g widget amongst Extended Controls, so would be very easy to do this. I'll see how much of a difference it makes. But do you not think there is something up with my particular battery, as I a struggling to get a "lite" days use out of the phone. Edited November 29, 2010 by oliphillips
Guest Just Wondering Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 (edited) Depends , I use opera mini for browsing as I find this uses very little battery compared with other browsers Also have you applied the quick fix the high CPU use for the dialer ? Basically ticking off the mute option I do feel the battery could be at least 25% stronger Edited November 29, 2010 by Just Wondering
Guest ballist1x Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 im the same.. youtube takes up almost 1% per min. i did a direct comparison with a mate at work who has an Iphone 3rd gen his battery lasts much longer and probably only consumes about 50-75% as much as the SF does on Youtube for instance (same clip, same duration etc) internet browsing as you say puts the powertutor draw well above the 1000mv mark. pretty poor tbh. that i can wipe out 30% of my battery in 30 mins is lame:

Swift these off and just turn them on when you need. Them. I was struggling to get a days light use but now I'm (almost) getting two days. But I do agree, the battery life is not great. If you check the task manager there are 20-odd apps running ALL the time and lots are hitting your data connection and GPS.
Guest ballist1x Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 i have trust me, i have been on a crusade over the last week to cut power usage from installing my own stripped down 'LITE' roms with very few APPs on them to ensuring screen brightness turned down, Wifi off etc but to no avail. i even boought spare battery but not had chance to test this yet...
Guest Just Wondering Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 Turn off the app setting allowing programs to sync in the background

I was struggling to get a day as well , download a wifi and 3g widget and switch them on only when needed , this has helped a fair bit :P

If you check the task manager there are 20-odd apps running ALL the time and lots are hitting your data connection and GPS. I did have GPS/Wifi/Bluetooth/Data connection always off unless required. And now thanks to poster above the same with 3G. Also every time I finish using an app I hit Taskiller and kill all tasks (except for the ignored widgets, etc). So I feel I am doing everything I can to keep it from draining power. What I'm wondering is if my battery is a bit s***, like did I charge it up long enough to begin with, or a dodgy one sent out to me? I mean, 5% from a 5 minute call is ridiculous! Was considering trying to get it replaced by Orange. But do you think from the way I have described things that it's not just mine, but everyones? Edited November 29, 2010 by oliphillips
Guest AndyHibberd Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 (edited) Hot dam there's some misinformed advice in this thread. Don't use task killer; more harm than good. Your battery should last a day, my dad on 2.1 gets about 9 hours. I'm on 2.2 and my record so far is draining to 40% battery after 20 hours use. I don't turn 3G off, I have a facebook and news widget. (3 and 6 hour refresh respectively.) I don't turn GPS off, it is only used when the icon is visible, aka in maps or navigation. Biggest factors affecting battery life: The screen (Including brightness) Data - 3G or Wifi will eat units. GPS (Only when active) Speaker Apps shouldn't cause a problem, most sleep and don't consume anything unless they are designed to background run eg LastFM. If you are concerned about a rogue app then check usage through OS Monitor. Get an Android phone - spend most of your time trying to save battery. Don't think this is specific to our device, the Desire HD struggles to get a day. Andy Edited November 29, 2010 by AndyHibberd
Guest Flumpster Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 Been doing some testing with the battery over the last few days. Fully Charged and left in sleep mode overnight for 8 hours used 8 percent. (92 percent on wake up). Wifi knocks off when the phone goes to sleep tho regardless of what you tell it to do so this is prob saving loads of battery. Used the phone very heavily yesterday for testing wifi issues but no games were played.. also used the satnav with gps for an hour. After 10 hours battery was on 20 percent. Very good I thought. I did use a method mentioned on another page a few days ago and this did seem to improve the battery life.. maybe it's worth a go. Summary: 1.Connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green, indicating the device is fully charged. 2.Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off. 3.Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green. 4.Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on. 5.Once the phone is powered completely on, power it off again and reconnect it to the charger until the notification LED is green. 6.Disconnect the phone, power it on in clockwork recovery, and wipe batt stats. You need to use this sequence only once. Because we are using the Blade ignore the "green LED" because Blade goes green at 90%. Just charge it for a while, max it out each time.
Guest Just Wondering Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 Has anyone noticed that if you Turn off and then back on the battery shows around 5 % less , just from rebooting !
Guest mELIANTE Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 (edited) Has anyone noticed that if you Turn off and then back on the battery shows around 5 % less , just from rebooting ! Yeah, rebooting is heavy on the battery, but my previous, non-Android phone, did the same, or it'd lose even more. About the battery, since I've started to it charge overnight instead of disconnecting from charger after "fully" charged, my battery run-time has improved. Edited November 29, 2010 by mELIANTE

I think rebooting just updates the battery stats, if you reboot again straight after the first reboot doesn't drop another 5%
Guest jarrvo Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 I get about 2 days use from a charge with around 1hr web browsing, 30mins angry birds, 20/30 texst and the odd call.
Guest markusj Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 (Power tutor said that it can't be trusted on this phone. These values seem to be a little bit high for me.) I've got 400-500 mW consumption with everything turned off but the system components, but it still lasts for a century without recharging. It's probably your battery.

Hi. I have been struggling with my battery life as well, angry bird is training my bat like mad. And yesterday evening 22:00 my bat was 100% and in the morning 8:00 it had only 4% Wifi off Bluetooth off Screen off (and set to lowest possible) but off (i was a sleep) Gps off Refresh thing on (was connected to 900mhz UMTS HDSPA) I had an app killer program running. (Somebody said this is harmfull) This was from fresh boot to using while USB was attached and from 100% bat charge detached to use. BUT STILL!! from 100% to 4% in what 10h WITH NO USE! No external use. Stock ROM 2.1 custom BOOT ROM tough i don't think this won't mater. I want to get the 2.2 Froyo ASAP So where did you buy that new BATTERY!?!?!
Guest Flumpster Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 BUT STILL!! from 100% to 4% in what 10h WITH NO USE! It sounds to me like something was stopping it going into proper sleep mode. I tested an app that killed the screen but kept the device alive last night so my wifi wouldn't die automatically. 6 hours later the battery was on 40 percent so I wont be using this method.

I think the % is just a guestimate, I get roughly 2 days out of mine but I switch it off over night and only use it for wifi/3g internet and sms, rarely used for actual phone calls. You could try re-calibrating by re-charging and resetting your battery stats using clockwork or if you know someone else with a sanfran you could try swapping batteries to see if it's the phone/battery. It is possible to buy spares too.
Guest ko0l Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 Anyone tried this on their phones? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807989

I once switched the phone off overnight and it totally discharged from 34% overnight!!
Guest tdodd Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 69% remaining, 90 hours after removing from charge.... I haven't used the phone much in that time but it has been in switched on and in non-flight mode the whole time. I've had data and sync disabled because I have not needed them over that period. Nonetheless, at this rate I'm on target for a standby time of ~12 days with very light use. Not too bad at all. :P

Maybe I should try out the stock orange rom with crap removed. Do you run LauncherPro or anything?
Guest meinnit Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 You have some dodgy processes consuming your battery. Install Spare Parts from the market. Go to Battery History and report back the top 3 processes (with timings) on the following: CPU Usage Partial Wake Usage
