I want to replace the standard 16gb card with a 32gb card. Can anyone give me a step by step guide to doing this -- transferring info from the old card to the new one, etc?

There are no special procedures required, ASFAIK.

Connect your Streak to your PC and mount the SD card.

Copy everything off it into a folder on your PC.

Disconnect your Streak, power off, and replace the 16GB card with the 32GB card.

Power on, connect to your PC, mount the SD card and copy everything from the folder on your PC to the new SD card.

Many thanks. That was what I hoped to would be confirmed.

Unless you're on about the internal SD card?

Which really isn't good for playing about with for upgrade purposes :P

Those replies have confused me a little. I thought there was only one microSD card involved. The one that is readily removable.

Than it's bettert to stick with what you know and change only external memory..

While I'm here.. Will I benefit if I replace my stock external mem card with class 10 one?? My friend just ordered one 16GB class 10 for 52$, for his HTC HD2, because I installed on his hd2 android and was running out of space on stock 2gb card and sluggish..

i may be VERY wrong here...

but my understanding of the sd card class system is (well limited) that the number reffers to the write speed, not the read speed

which would mean that once data is on the card, it'll be read by the phone at about the same speed no matter the class...

a better class card would cut down times between camera shots tho

the internal HDD of the streak is also a micro sd card

it's hidden inside of the phone

to change your REMOVABLE sd card (the one under the batt cover, next to the SIM card) follow the instructiosn already posted

PERSONALLY, i'd mount the new card first, to allow the phone to populate the card with the system folders (this happens automatically)

1/ insert new blank (empty) sd card

2/ select format card, from the phone settings menu (on the NEW card) - this will wipe any existing content & make the card into a file structure that the phone will like :P (FAT not NTFS)

3/ place OLD card in your PC (easist with SD adaptor...)

4/ copy all files to your PC

5/ place NEW card in your PC, copy contents from OLD card (that you just backed up to your PC) to the new card

6/ When prompted on folder/file overwrite select NO

7/ this will copy the contents of your old card to the new one, & give you a fresh set of system folders

other people may very have diff ways of doing this... i did it as i've described it above = no probs

Glad we all helped, it's what forums should be all about ;)

Where would be the best place to buy a 32gb card? I will probably be buying the phone supplied with a 16gb card, as buying one with 32gb means another £80 on top of the phone.

Just for info purposes, im living in the UK, if that helps with the best website to go for

I put a new class 10 SD in my external slot, and the phone doesn't recognize it at all.

It is formatted FAT32.

It doesn't give me the option of formatting it through the phone either.

Can I force it through ADB or terminal emulator?

Thanks!

Can you guys recommend a good 32gb card class 10 that has already been tested and confirmed to work?

Thanks.

Just remove it and use a card reader to format .

Both kingston and patriot have good reviews

Of course I did that.

I remembered that my camera threw my old card into a fit, so I put this one in there, then the streak asked me to format.

I bought Patriot 16GB. Its fast.

Kingston would probably be better though. More money Im sure.

Its worth mentioning that the above is right, the "Class" of the card defines the MINIMUM write speed, its easy to remember as a class 2 can write 2MB a second, a class 4 = 4MB/s, 6 = 6MB, etc... Normally the read speed is much much faster... I wouldn't spend the dough on a Class 10, I'd probably get a Class 6 at most. Now if I was doing the internal SD, thats a different story. (a much more complicated different story)
