Im thinking of getting the San Fran for my girlfriend for xmas (The white one if possible!) and i was planning on de-orange-ing it, and just keeping the stock ROM for stability reasons, but then i want it to have the best performance/battery life possible, and for everything to work!

Doesn't matter if its 2.1/2.2, 2.2 would be the better performer, but i haven't found one thats fully stable, and completely ready to be used everyday by a nontech user. I was thinking of the Modaco R4 ROM, but its getting a bit old isn't it? Is that the best/most stable 2.1 ROM? Or would i be best just leaving it on stock ROM and removing the orange crap?

I'm also partially buying it to do this, as im an iPhone user (Boo etc. etc. :P ) i've always watched the far more interesting Android community from the sidelines, but she really does need a new phone! Currently using a Genio, urgghhhh :D

Cheers for any help guys

For 2.1, it's Paul's R4

For 2.2, Fibblesan's R3A, works a treat for me.

Three points.

Is there an availability date for the white painted one?

For Christmas. Unless you are posting it to Easter Island, you have plenty of time.

During which period things WILL change.

No doubt of that at all.

For now, for stability, etc, and an absence of making the user a beta-tester, check out Sebastian404's de-orangeated "fat". Everything "just works" - except Google Voice which isn't in the UK yet ... AND there's plenty of room to add masses more apps.

And there's nothing techie to bother about.

2.2 looks as though its going to be rather quicker (better for games), but as of now, it is NOT GF-proof.

But that will change.

Maybe even before Christmas ...

Don't install 2.2, since those ROMs are still in Beta (but quite stable tough). I suggest BladeVillain 1.1.0.

Definitely go with a Froyo rom to get the most out of the phone. I've been using various 2.2's for six weeks now and there are no show-stopping problems. Everything is much smoother and I think a 100% stable Froyo is just round the corner.

agree BladeVillain best for gf, my gf uses it. the only thing she doesnt like is the red android after the green 1 before the boot animation.the rom is quality and launcher pro is the best launcher in my opinion.specially as you can enable the 3d drawer and if you buy the unlock key you can use its facebook widgets
