Driver for Vista, & transferring music problem.

I wonder if anyone can help a beginner….as simple as possible please, as I read some of the threads on this forum and they might as well be written in another language!

I have a Windows Vista 32 bit desktop PC, when I connect my phone via USB a “found new hardware” box appears, headlined “Windows needs to install driver software for your ZTE HSUSB device” I click on ”Locate and install driver software”

Another box says “installing driver device software” after a minute another box comes up saying “insert the disc that came with your ZTE HSUSB device” & “I don’t have a disc, show me other options” which I click on, here there are 2 options:-

1st “Check for solutions”

2nd “browse my computer for driver software”

1st try:-“Windows could not find driver software for your device”

2nd try “browse my computer for driver software (advanced)” Which I do next….

I then can browse…I go to Computer and find the phone as a “removable discs (G) I can see various folders in here, but nothing that looks (to me) like a driver? Should it be here?

I have searched the forum for help, and have found links to download drivers which I have done, they appear on my desktop as a word document, if I open them they are just a written programme of some sort, should they be like this? And what do I do with them if indeed they should be? (even if I browse for it, I cannot find it anywhere, even though I can see it on my desktop!)

There is no info on the Orange website about drivers for this phone, and I have rang the customer support, who up to now could not help (they emailed ZTE in China over 3 weeks ago for help, and are supposed to get back to me, I emailed them again 6 days ago to chase them up, but they still have not got back…I’m not holding my breath!)

My main problem why (I was told in the orange shop) I need a driver is that when I drag and drop music albums or tracks (ones I have copied from my own CD’s) to my phone, then disconnect the phone and look for these CD’s or tracks on the phone they don’t show the artist name, i.e. the artist comes up as “unknown artist” apart from that it shows the album art, album title and track titles. If I look at the files of these downloads on my phone through my PC (in my computer) it shows the artist’s names.

Tracks that have been downloaded from Amazon are fine, i.e. show the artists names (downloaded to my computer first, then dragged to the phone) .

This problem never happened before with my old phone, a Sony Ericson W810i, doing it the same way with a drag and drop.

I also have tried connecting the phone to a 6 month old HP Windows 7 laptop, with exactly the same results (cannot find driver and unknown artist problem) so it not just my PC.

I have also tried to convert the tracks to MP3 before dragging them, but this does not improve anything (if fact it made it worse by saying unknown track and album also)

What other problems could I have with not having the driver installed?

So if any of you techies can help, please remember to be gentle, thanks. :P

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...te-usb-drivers/

There are the drivers.

Yes, i have already done that, as i said "I have searched the forum for help, and have found links to download drivers which I have done, they appear on my desktop as a word document, if I open them they are just a written programme of some sort, should they be like this? It's a 7zip compressed archive file, so install 7zip (freeware) and unpack.

Thanks, but this is where I get lost... and unpack? :P what does that mean?

I've downloaded 7zup now, and downloaded the driver in the link, it then asks me what file i want to open it with, I've browsed and found 7zip file...if I click on that file it opens to about 5 options...where do i go from here?

Step by step, for a simpleton :D

7zip should be present in the context menu.

right click the driver file you've downloaded, and select 7zip > extract to '[FOLDER NAME]'. this will extract the files to a new folder.

now you just next to install them... :P

Edit...I used one of the 5 options, which seemed to work?

I then connected my phone and it said that the drivers were now installed, and the phone ready to use, so I have just dragged some more music over, and it still says "unknown artist" :P

Any idea's?

I don't understand why you want additional drivers. If you want to copy music files, the USB Mass Storage drivers are all you need, and these are included with Windows. It will show your memory card in My Computer and you simply drag and drop your music files into a folder on your memory card.

Installing ZTE drivers will NOT fix your issue of bad metadata (artist/track names etc.). This issue lies in the actual music file itself.

To fix the issue of bad metadata you need to use a more widely supported format (MP3) and/or use a metadata editor to edit your track/artist names such as MP3Tag.

Oh and to all the people suggesting he download 7-zip etc.. I know you're trying to help, but please actually read the OP before misguiding him even more.

I was told by someone who works in the Orange shop that the unkown artist was due to the missing driver problem, so i was going on his advice, its good to here from someone who knows better, so thank for that.

so my next Question is how do I "To fix the issue of bad metadata you need to use a more widely supported format (MP3) and/or use a metadata editor to edit your track/artist names such as MP3Tag."

I think the best course of action is for you to send me a sample music file which has this problem. I can then tell you exactly how to fix the artist/track names.

I will send you a PM with my email address. :P

I have looked into the issue and this is a general problem with WMA files. I tried to edit the WMA tags and I also tried it with a few different music player apps, but the issue is with the Android OS I'm afraid.

The only thing you can do is convert your music into MP3. I'd recommend dBpoweramp to convert to MP3.

I have tried converting to MP3 using this erightsoft. SUPER.

But it did not work (as I said it was worse, not showing tracks or album details once converted), I presume dbpoweramp is the same type of thing?
