Guest Niks10 Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 does anyone know when the sf is getting updated to 2.2 to buy in the shops thanks in advance It is unlikely that Orange will release 2.2 Froyo for this phone.
Guest oh!dougal Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) does anyone know when the sf is getting updated to 2.2 to buy in the shops thanks in advance Supposedly never in Europe. (My rationalisation to explain that decision would be the need for a second round of approvals testing.) "Mid December" in Japan and China. Where are your shops? Edited December 1, 2010 by oh!dougal

"Mid December" in Japan and China. Where are your shops? in europe bummer, im gonna have to buy a 2.1 and install a 2.2 roms ill just wait until a very stable 2.2 comes out
Guest nikatapi Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Its been officially confirmed that the Greek Blade (lcd, 256ram) will get a 2.2 update in January-February, so maybe we can get some sort of port
Guest meinnit Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Why does everyone think that Orange won't release 2.2? If it comes out soon I would think that they would invest in development because it would be a major selling point

If it comes out soon I would think that they would invest in development because it would be a major selling point All indications that I have - is that we will be doing 2.2 I believe the main concern is getting the upgrade path nice and simple for users.
Guest El Nino9 Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) It is unlikely that Orange will release 2.2 Froyo for this phone. where the eff you get you facts from? purely misleading..back it up with source if you going to shoot it down :P i've read on threads on this site that orange are working on updating their 2.1 rom. after that a 2.2 rom should be released but who nos all in all they might jump to gingerbread without the need for froyo. look at htc how they did it with the hero, jumped 1.6 and when to 2.1 after a long time but they still did it. now people dont go saying this device can't handle it cos it bloody well can.. now this is purely MY hunch that if the white blade has a tft screen as people are concerned about then that might explain why orange want to release a new 2.1, maybe a rom thats compatiable with both hardware like the htc desire (1 with amoled and 1 with slcd) only thing is orange are a bit rubbish with updates because they heavily brand their devices and have to test etc etc... the device is now in across europe so if 1 of the operators get it i am sure it will be ported to the uk device worse case scenario.. Guest oh!dougal Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 All indications that I have - is that we will be doing 2.2 I believe the main concern is getting the upgrade path nice and simple for users. Well that would be brilliant, but ISTR there was something from ZTE (about releasing the FroYo source) which indicated that 2.2 was "not for Europe". But of course its ENTIRELY likely that left and right hands are not communicating there!

But of course its ENTIRELY likely that left and right hands are not communicating there! i believe its not for Europe as there is no Google apps support in china. once the source is released a few things such as screen has to be changed. the main thing is they need to release a working version of a stable kernel source.. specially the froyo kernel
Guest StevenHarperUK Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 I agree the build that is leaked from the Chinese phones are not for Europe. However the Kernel in that dump probably will be - adding Google APKs to the ROM and a few Orange bits is not all that hard.
Guest rjm2k Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 where the eff you get you facts from? purely misleading..back it up with source if you going to shoot it down :P Well ZTE's smartphone dept themselves did say there were no plans for 2.2 in Europe, however that might have changed now. As for testing for Europe being the reason not to release, I think that's unlikely since most of the certification (CE for example) is self certification with little or no power to prosecute if a company didn't do it correctly.
Guest UbaRolfey Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 This is based on nothing, and is just a passing comment, I went into an Orange shop the other day and happened to ask, the bloke behind the counter said that they will prolly be pushing it out over the air. Mike

Mike ZTE don't have the capabilities like HTC to do that - It requires reasonably high capacity servers and other such things - The ones I have seen for 2.1 were executables. I expect the same for any updates - if they ever get released.
Guest Arr Too Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 I work for Orange - I work on the Apps for Android and iPhones - I work with the team that check, verify the ROM builds from ZTE OT, but do you have any info on what app/settings Orange might have sent one forum member that supposedly stopped their wifi from breaking? See here.

Android 2.2 a.k.a froyo won't be released by orange according to their tweet: "We have no plans to launch 2.2 on the San Francisco I'm afraid" Can't locate that tweet now.

This is based on nothing, and is just a passing comment. Fixed that for you! Regarding Orange's future plans, I'm afraid that nobody in a shop should be regarded as a reliable source. Or even as having any tech knowledge.

They almost definitely might also have said "Free Orange San Francisco phones to all good children this Christmas (check your chimneys)" but can't locate the tweet now.
Guest OO7 Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 I work for Orange - I work on the Apps for Android and iPhones - I work with the team that check, verify the ROM builds from ZTE No offence to you personally but Orange don't know their arse from their elbow. There is so much misinformation from them that anything is possible (or not in Orange's case).

Guest Ash_P Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 I would think that they would invest in development because it would be a major selling point They already have a major selling point price. I'm not convinced at this moment in time they need to spend money on R&D to sell more phones that they presumably make very little on (or a loss).

As ZTE are the real winner here - Orange are selling lots of their devices - I am sure they have an interest in keeping their OS up to date....

Guest El Nino9 Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 As ZTE are the real winner here - Orange are selling lots of their devices - I am sure they have an interest in keeping their OS up to date.... agree.. also a surely a simple exe file that puts the phone into fastboot and then flashes the required files would be ideal? i mean the best part about zte would be as they are operator specific that they don't put files(unless for china) on their site but on the operators site/sever. all the roms are branded so far. and about the tweet, just because orange said no 2.2 doesn't mean no 2.3 :P think back to the pulse :D 1.5 to 2.1
