Guest Pia23 Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Hi, i did search but no results, so apologies if this has been covered (as i'm sure it has) I am really annoyed by the fact it converts to an MMS when i hit 3 texts in one message - is there a way to stop this without using another application for texting altogether? Like most other people i buy my texts in a bundle and don't have money to spend 30p or whatever on an MMS I'm on Orange, could they do it from their end? :P
Guest triobot Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 think the max amount of text you can fit on an SMS is 160x3 = 480 If you are sending anymore text, i think its a clever it switches. solution is to not text an essay?
Guest Maringer Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 I switched to Handcent - after a good search around, there was no apparent way to stop the standard Android messaging app from converting to MMS. Like you, I have unlimited texts on my phone contract but pay a hefty fee for each MMS sent so it does get a little irritating when some people seem to think the automatic conversion is a good idea!
Guest Freekers Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) Use ChompSMS, there is no other way to stop Android from doing this on 2.1 (the biggest flaw of 2.1 if you ask me) Handcent is the cheap chinese ripoff clone of ChompSMS... try it and see it for yourself ! I'm sure you'll like it. Edited December 1, 2010 by Freekers
Guest m_w_clarke Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Handcent is the cheap chinese ripoff clone of ChompSMS... try it and see it for yourself ! I'm sure you'll like it. Except Handcent is faster and has more options - so maybe not quite the cheap chinese ripoff you say it is :-$ Chomp was also more of a memory hog for me. Handcent has the option to use SMS rather than MMS when over 3 messages (I know, beucase I use it!) - Send Message Settings -> Untick Auto-convert ot MMS.

Compare the two to each other: I find a lot of similarities also in structure and menu layout; that can't be a coincidence. ChompSMS has that option too, else I wouldn't have posted it in this topic :P
