Guest topshelf95 Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 (edited) It seems my home button has a mind of its own. I can literally slide my finger across all three buttons and they all will register except the home button. Sometimes I have to hit the home button fairly hard to get it to work and sometimes several taps before i can get it to register at all. Is this normal or some kind of defect? Could it be software related (maybe fix with another flashing of Steve's 1.4.6?) Or hardware related? Ive searched and found one old post of someone with a broken home button that seemed to just start working on its own again? Weird. Edited December 2, 2010 by topshelf95
Guest zen123 Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Same here my home button needs a more positive push to register. Its semms to be a hardware problem as this is my second Streak (I gave the first one to my nephew as a graduation gift) & the previous one didn't have this problem.
Guest ulfses Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 My guess is that under the piece that you press, the capacitive sensor is a bit loose. I have my streak disassembled here, and as far as i can see the sensors are glued.

That seems to make sense that the sensor may be a bit loose as the home button is capacitive and should not need the extra hard tapping to "jostle" it to get it to work. Is it hard to disassemble without messing something up so that it couldn't be put back together? I'm fairly mechanically inclined and would not be too afraid to take it apart as long as I knew there were no special tools I needed to get it back together and no surprises when I take it apart. Its not to bad. If you should peel it off, do it from the bottom and up - like this ifixit example. The plate is glued on with double sided tape, so i wouldnt do it to many times as the sticky stuff gets worn pretty fast. I ended up replacing all the double sided tape on my streak when i changed the display.
Guest Firebird356 Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 Did you manage to fix the buttons by taking your phone apart? I bought a Streak yesterday and the back button isn't working. The other two buttons both appear to have the same function so I am not sure if this means they are also broken but at least they respond to touch which is more than I can say for the back button :)
Guest stillerwinter Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 Yes the capacitive buttons are not very good. I've had an milestone, and its button also were not prefect. By my Desire the hard buttons were much superior. On my streak is the back button the bad one. Very unresponsive.
Guest Sotiris Lekkas Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 I have the same problem with you guys. When we remove the cover what are we supposed to see and touch? Don't want to make it worst.

Guest stoffy Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Hi, I have replaced the brocken LCD, while I ripped the ribbon cable under the Home button. Can I replace the small cover with the Home button and the ribbon cable, such as a broken LCD display? It works only the back button. The middle button and the Home button no longer work. thanks stoffy
Guest popetodd Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 I had the same problem with the capacitive buttons, I sent it back and they were unable to fix it so they replaced it. You probably should do the same instead of voiding your warranty.
