Guest cartierv Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Hello guys, got my new SF couple of days ago. Great looking phone. My new SIM isn't working yet, Orange say 48 hours to activate... so it's not quite plug and play from the box as it turns out. Anyway, Wifi is ok, apart from some of the weird dropouts and going to the bottom of the list and not wanting to reconnect again that has been well reported. But anyway I'm trying to set up a google account on the phone and it's not letting me, it says at first "this could take up to 5 minutes", but then after a bit you get "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" even though Wifi is up and running and you can surf the web ok. In fact the Google Create Account app or whatever it is doesn't even seem to realize that wifi is running as it then asks you if you want to try connecting through Wifi even though you're already connected. Anyway doesn't work regardless. I have read of people suffering the same on the net on various boards, but no real answers. It looks to me either it is expecting to do this via 3g/2g or I have deactiveated something somewhere that is interfering with this process, I have turned off/on/off a bunch of settings about sending background data, although when I turned them on again and tried it still didn't work. I suppose it's possible I turned some other setting off somewhere... So any ideas ?
Guest 5kops Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Create a googlemail account on PC and then try to sign in on phone. If that does'nt work factory reset phone. Happened to me, same message whilst trying to sign in. Factory reset phone and it worked.
Guest Nedjo Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 just picked up my new SF today and faced same issue! Solution is simple: you need to connect over 3G in order to sync /w Google account! Once you do that it'll work over WiFi to!
Guest cartierv Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Ok guys how do you a factory reset ? I thought I glimpsed something about power button once in one of the orange manuals, but I have no idea.
Guest cartierv Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Ok cool, i wanted to try out a few new apps on the phone, i wont be using gmail or maps . But now I see there are alternative sites to Android Market like slideme. Can I ask a question ? Forgive me cause I'm a little bit new to all this. Are all the same apps on slideme as on Market ? Or are there 'better' apps on Market ?
