Guest gurmukh Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Hi Guys I've just bought a ZTE Blade here in Finland and am hoping to root it. It's not got the Orange bloatware etc on it. Will the rooting process still be the same? Just thought I'd check before I may brick it! Thanks guys! http://www.tele.fi/liittymat+ja+puhelimet/...limet/zte+blade

Something new? How much RAM? Thanks.
Guest Lew247 Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) From the specs on that website Näyttö: 3,5 kapasitiivinen kosketusnäyttö (TFT 800x480) So there ARE versions of this phone wwith TFT screens still 3.2MP camera though and not 5 Edited December 3, 2010 by Lew247
Guest GraviticVortex Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) So all major Finnish carriers have Blade now? Elisa/Saunalahti and Sonera/Tele, too it seems... Edited December 3, 2010 by GraviticVortex
Guest gurmukh Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Yes, its a bargain from Tele for 96 euros! It's a 3.5" TFT Screen Memory: 100 MB of internal memory, and the sales package includes 2 GB of memory, also supports up to 32GB of microSD memory cards http://www.tele.fi/liittymat+ja+puhelimet/...limet/zte+blade

That means you'll get a kernel and startup scrips that isn't designed to work with the rest of your install. Universal Androot is propably a safer method. An alternative method would be to flash Clockwork recovery and reflash with a pre-rooted custom ROM. My latest ROM (Finnish Fillyjonk) will propably work and also ROMs based on the Hungarian ROM could work too.
Guest GraviticVortex Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) Ah, that shows whatta noob i am ;) I always assumed phone needs to be rooted in order to flash Clockwork recovery... Silly me. 96€ price is on contract i assume? As with Saunalahti where its 189€ for everybody and 117€ on contract. Edited December 3, 2010 by GraviticVortex

Guest gurmukh Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 From the specs on that website So there ARE versions of this phone wwith TFT screens still 3.2MP camera though and not 5 BTW interestingly, this other Finnish network operator has the 5MP camera: http://saunalahti.fi/puhelimet/puhelin.php...pe=handsetmodel
Guest kallt_kaffe Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 If I installed the Clockwork recovery app, is it possible to brick the device by installing the wrong roms? Not asfaik. You could of course end up with a non-booting phone but as long as you can enter "bootloader"-mode (volume up) or recovery-mode (volume down) it can be fixed by reflashing a working ROM. I guess there is a chance that your phone have a more recent ROM than the other finnish blade so maybe you should look into dumping the original ROM first. That also makes it possible for someone to create a recovery ROM. Get in touch with sebastian404 who manages this thread: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...239/stock-roms/ and try to get the ROM dumped.
Guest ergo911 Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Can you please check your rom version(build nr) from About Phone. And yes, maybe you can dump it if its newer. Thanks ;)
Guest gurmukh Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 @GraviticVortex - The phone is free on a 24 month contract. The monthly contract price is 4 euros. So if you pay the 96 euros upfront, the phones yours! @Kalt_kaffe + @ergo911 - My phone is in the post, so as soon as I get it, I'll do as you said :-)
Guest froschke Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 96 euro? this is way too expensive ... ... in switzerland you get for 84 euro without any contract ;) http://okmobile.ch/de/mobile/index.php?id=smartphone phone (100 CHF) + prepaid sim (10 chf) = 110 CHF / 84 Euro

I think this other operator had a better deal though, 6,9e x 24 = 165,6e, including unlimited data for two years. (though I'm sure they offer this for a limited time only) It's interesting that there are both 3,2mp and 5mp cameras here! Didn't know that until now. Edited December 3, 2010 by ale_syrj
Guest markusj Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 96 euro? this is way too expensive ... ... in switzerland you get for 84 euro without any contract ;) Sounds good, in Hungary it's 137€ without contract... ________________ Sounds like you need a hungarian-style rom. (Hungarian Hedgehog, bladeVillain, etc.)

Thanks guys! http://www.tele.fi/liittymat+ja+puhelimet/...limet/zte+blade Root it with VISIONary R14 (temproot only) would be my advice, then use the 'cat' command to dump the MTD partitions (view the partitions by doing 'cat /proc/mtd' then do cat /dev/mtd/mtd1>/sdcard/mtd1-partitionname.img), thereby giving you a 'safety net'.
