Guest Winston69 Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Think we might need a divide between the two as it seems there's differences between the two which can cause problems if used on the wrong type? I just used superboot on my new white tft model and the screen went very strange?

I've not had any problems running any ROM on my original San Francisco phone... not sure if the older roms will work with the newer phones, hopefully someone will do some real testing.
Guest Winston69 Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Yeah i suppose it could work both ways for the older models and only one way for the newer Bloody confusing them releasing all the variants, not on really, should just stick to one model revision, or at most two!
Guest Digitalize Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 one idea is that TFT's need backlight control, so the TFT ROM will tell the backlight to come on when the phones woken up etc, this isn't a problem on an OLED model as it will get the wake command, just there will be no backlight to switch on. HOWEVER, OLED ROM on TFT Screen, OLED doesn't need a backlight to be woken up, so it never tells the screen, backlight never comes on, makes TFT phone basically unusable.
Guest Winston69 Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) That sounds bang on from what I can think. So we need all ROMS to now include the backlight wake command to cover both bases? Edited December 3, 2010 by Winston69

As ZTE have no concept of version control, its more likely that the newer firmewares will support OLED and TFT, like they support 3MP and 5MP cameras. Of course as ZTE have no concept of version control, its more likely they will break the older functionality and new ROMS will have problems working on older phones...

From what we can tell all the froyo ROM's will support both screens as they have come from the chinese handset which is TFT? Or is it OLED still? Make it tricky for us ZTE why don't you!
Guest Digitalize Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Either need to find out that new ROMs work perfectly on OLED models, or see if we can extract the screen drivers, so that people can make 2 versions of each ROM. Assuming thats the only difference between each phone. Planning on picking up a White SF for my GF soon, but will have it for a few weeks to play around with, so i'll have a SF that i can just do stuff to (As long as its all reversible) as it will be spare. Was hoping to whack a good 2.1 ROM on, but looks like its gonna need some work done to it...
Guest Winston69 Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 I'm going to try the bladevillian rom in a moment and will let you know how it goes
Guest Arr Too Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 I'm going to try the bladevillian rom in a moment and will let you know how it goes Might be worth working your way through Seb's Stock ROMs -- you might find the find build that supports TFT and then (hopefully!) from then on the ROM supports both screens.

I think we have the first example of that with the Finnish rom. Seems that doesn't like the compass/accelerometer sensor in the the OLED San Fran and other pre-Finnish phones. The compass swings when the phone is rolled or pitched, instead of only when it is yawed. See kallt_kaffe's Finnish Fillyjonk thread from this post http://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=1500296 "Uh-oh... " Edited December 4, 2010 by oh!dougal

Guest fonix232 Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 Well, the kernel has the drivers for the TFT and the AMOLED screen too, but the AMOLED drivers makes the screen go weird (oranges go into blue, blues go into orange), while the TFT drivers what are in the only-TFT models are a bit buggy (somehow, the screen gets the same voltage as the AMOLED screen, what is way too high for the TFT, that's why some greys go into a weird blue-ish color).

Is there a Rom available somewhere which can fix this issue with the Hungarian "downscaled" blades with TFT screens? I really disklike the blue tint, its quite noticable sometimes (will bring this phone back as well coz this one has dead pixel issues, but I wonder if there's a rom available right now to fix this bug).

I don't think it has been pointed out yet in this thread that kallt_kaffe's roms Hungarian Hedgehog and Finnish Fillyjonk do support the LCD screen as well as the OLED (or perhaps that should be the other way round!) AFAIK both BladeVillain, and Freekers version of it, play nicely with both screen types. At this point, I believe all Paul's 2.1 roms support the OLED only. As do Sebastian404's, being overtly based on roms from OLED devices. Edited December 6, 2010 by oh!dougal
Guest oh!dougal Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Personally, I am not disposed to cross-post this info into every thread (and there are LOTS already) where people have flashed a rom and "messed up the colours" on their LCD screen versions of this phone ... It might be a good thing for rom providers to include a note about screen, ram size, compass/accelerometer and camera compatibility in their release notes.
