I want to get a new sd card for my san fran for xmas as my 2gb one is almost full with backups and what not, so whats the biggest i can fit? I think the specs say max of 8gb but dont see why that should be the limit? and i think ive seen sigs with 16gb san fran, is there something special you have to do to get that to work?

finally when i do get my new sd card what will i have to do to get it back up with custom roms etc like will i have to reflash clockwork and fastboot etc or just copy the directories over from the old card.

thanks!

I thought it could take up to 32gig

I was thinking of getting a larger card and copying the contents of my current one to my pc - then from my pc to the new card.

I think there was some topic in forum talking abt 32GB SDcard having a problem, but 16GB works fine..

ah well thats good news, so is it just a case of copying over files on one sd card to the new one? no other process and ill be good to go? seems easier than i expected ;)

I think all 8gb cards are likely to work.

There seem to be some issues with at least some 32gb cards.

I haven't spotted anyone reporting problems with a 16gb card.

My (then-cheap) Verbatim-from-Amazon-not the marketplace 16gb works very nicely in the SF.

Marked Class 2, it runs at Class 6 speed.

If you plan to use A2SD with Android 2.1 then you should partition your card before putting it in the SF. (Search the Forum for gparted and a2sd)

Other than that, it is just a matter of copying stuff across to the FAT32 partition ...

It'd be prudent to check things are working properly before wiping the old card !

And of course you should know that there's a vast number of fake cards around which are nothing like their marked capacity. Unfortunately, most also falsely report their capacity. Its only when you try and use the space that it all goes wrong ...

Hi,

although I have a 16gb Class 6 Sandisk card (99.9% believed to be genuine) which works in the SF, it cannot be written to whilst it is mounted in the phone. It constantly mounts and de-mounts so the only way of writing files to it is to remove it and insert into the PC directly. This is frustrating.

My question is do any 16 gb cards work completely (i.e can you write large files to the card) when it is in the phone and connected via USB? If yes which class and make are you using.

Thanks

My Kingston 16GB Class 4 works fine in my SanFran. But another poster said their one doesn't. :)

The SDHC standard is maximized at 32GB. As the ZTE Blade supports only SDHC (and not SDXC), the maximal card size is 32GB, while the max Class is 10 AFAIK.

My card shows it to be a Micro SD card it does not show it as being a SD HC card Will the San Fransisco take the HC card?

MicroSDHC just means it's a larger capacity than microSD.

I have a 16GB card. It works fine both read and write, though mounting USB storage is pretty slow.

Does the ROM used make a difference? I am using MoDaCo Custom Rom R4.

I just received a 16GB Class 4 from Play for £14.99 delivered, -60p cash back from TopCashBack. I have not tried to run any kind of speed test on it. It works in my San Francisco after formatting it in the phone. I've downloaded a few Picasa albums and played back a slideshow and so far it all works.

The largest files I have handy are 200MB. I connected via USB and initially there was something odd happening, before I even attempted to copy any files. I had USB debugging enabled - a hangover from the days before I found working USB drivers - and the phone kept notifying me that I was connecting via USB. It was like the connection was unstable, even though I wasn't actively using it. Maybe there was a physical connection problem with the cable.

I disabled USB debugging and things seemed to settle down. I copied over a bunch of 200MB files and that seemed to work without issue. I tried re-enabling debugging and copied some more, again with no problems. Finally I disabled debugging and copied several large files again. Copy/write speed was only ~3MB/s but the files appeared to copy over OK as far as I can tell.

Reading the files back over USB the speed was 14.5MB/s for 1.6GB of files.

BTW, a word of warning about the cards from Play. I've seen it reported that some people have been receiving Class 2 cards. Since my card at least says it is Class 4 I imagine there has been a stock binning ballsup at the Play warehouse rather than any deliberate intent to deceive, and some Class 2 cards have got mixed in with the Class 4 stock. Still, be careful to check what you receive.

Many thanks - I might try a different card now.
