people have told me to overclock my blade buh i jus dont know what it is.

what is overclocking/underclocking?

how do you do it?

what are the benefits of doing it?

is it restricted to some roms only or all custom roms?

For overclocking, you need a third party kernel, for underclocking anyone can do it as long as they have root access as far as I know. Check out SetCPU from the Market, you can control the min/max CPU speed with sliders, and create profiles.

Benefits? Faster CPU = everythings faster, and you can save battery life by forcing a lower top speed.

Honestly, you'd be best advised to leave it for the moment.

Its an area of 'active research' right now.

Making the cpu run faster, SHOULD make the computer do stuff faster.

BUT of course it also drains the battery faster, and the chips run hotter and will fail sooner.

Try and go too fast and the thing will get confused and crash or lockup and need a reboot. Not good when the boss phones you.

With the Blade, the position is complicated by the graphics processor (gpu).

This works best/fastest when in step with the main cpu.

And clocking the gpu faster has not yet been done.

So overclocking the cpu can lead to LOWER performance, because the gpu can't run to best effect.

Results so far indicate that overclocking the Blade tends to give worse performance in games.

Its a compromise between either leaving it alone or computing faster but drawing the screen slower. Most people want the smoothest screen experience, and for now, overclocking the cpu does not deliver that.

The advantage of UNDERclocking would of course be to make the battery last longer on a charge, by sacrificing some performance.

At the moment I don't think there is {a custom kernel} available for the Blade.

It allready does that. The default is that CPU scales "on demand". When the phone is idle it will run at 245.76MHz. No need two tweak anything to change that. But if you want to save battery you should disable mobile data and wifi when you are not using it. Get APNDroid from Market.
