Guest whatkatedoes Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 Does anyone know of an app that will allow remote viewing and subsequent capture of the Vega's screen or an in-OS app to record the screen? I'd quite like to make some usage videos to show off to cronies ;)
Guest deadite66 Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 just tried PicMe but got a blank screen on the browser
Guest trevor432990 Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 I believe when you connect an HDMI cable to the Vega the content of the screen can then be output to whatever device you plug the other end of the cable into. If this is the case (and I haven't tried this myself yet) in theory you could plug it into a device which has an 'HDMI In' socket such as an Audio/Video amp and then pipe the signal to a DVD Recorder, PVR or some other combination to record your work on the Vega.

Note I can't confirm ether method although, I use Ultra VNC for PC remote control every day, and have used camtasia for screen recording in my day job. HTH
Guest lnux9898 Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 http://www.xda-developers.com/android/andr...vnc-server-0-2/ http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia/ <- 30 trial I tested the VNC Server -- works really well. I did set the Display Timeout to 30 mins so that the connection is not closed when the display powers down. Also, you can use DDMS that comes with the Android SDK. http://www.sameshow.com/democreator/articl...roid-phone.html
Guest whatkatedoes Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Fab! ;) Thanks - I'll give this a try when I get into work, as I use Camtasia there for creating training material :P I'll post a link to a test video here once I've done so :P
Guest whatkatedoes Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Hmm.. I've installed it, and I can connect - but I get a blank screen with a "x" mousepointer that I can move about and click on things with (can see them being clicked on the actual vega screen but not the VNC display feed) Any ideas?
Guest whatkatedoes Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Just to ressurect this one - has anyone found any other working solutions to this? I could never get VNC to work, I'd link in but just get a blank screen with a x mouse pointer - like I'd VNC'd into the wrong screen/session in Linux - couldnt resolve that tho. Tried the ADB link thing, but was awfully slow. I dont have a way to take the output from the HDMI output into anything else either unfortunately.
Guest tpbeta Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 As I understand it the Vega doesn't use the fb0 framebuffer so the Onaips VNC server doesn't work. This is currently true of any Tegra Android device, I'm told.

Ah, now I actually have my Vega I will give it a try later when I am home from work. The reverse ( using the Vega to control a PC ) works really well, I have installed the free Mocha VNC client.
Guest MonkeyBoy451 Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 Have you tried - TeamViewer - they have now released the new Android v6 beta and new windows 6 versions. Android version here --> http://www.teamviewer.com/download/mobile.aspx PC v6 here --> http://www.teamviewer.com/download/tv6.aspx Works great (for me anyway)

The reverse ( using the Vega to control a PC ) works really well, I have installed the free Mocha VNC client. I spent the whole of Xmas trying to find a way to run a VNC server on the Vega. As there's only one Android VNC server in existance (Onaips) and it definitely doesn't support the Tegra framebuffer, I would suggest it's currently not possible. But if you find a way please let me know.
Guest tpbeta Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 Ah, now I actually have my Vega I will give it a try later when I am home from work. Don't forget you'll have to root your Vega before you can install the VNC server, in order to find out it doesn't work 8-)
Guest whatkatedoes Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 Teamviewer as far as I can tell only links from android > PC, not the reverse. I suspect its something to do with the Tegra hardware display with regards VNC etc. Guess something will come along sooner or later. Guest boffboff Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 Looks like you'll just have to take 1000's of screenshots with DDMS and make a flipbook animation! (Hey at least it'll work!) Sorry I can't be of more help!!

Hmmm Both Tegra hardware and Google security. This post says it all... https://review.source.android.com//#change,8866
Guest tpbeta Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 (edited) I suspect its something to do with the Tegra hardware display with regards VNC etc. Guess something will come along sooner or later. I'm told by those who know that Android Tegra uses overlays in hardware when rendering things like video over normal android UI, and thus there’s no single framebuffer (the display controller does the composition/blend during scanout). Which makes VNC rather tricky. Edited January 5, 2011 by tpbeta
Guest ptbw Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 I have had a play with AndroidScreenCast and its very slow but if its just for viewing fairly static images it might be what you want. http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/ You can run the Java program from the link on the above page, after attaching your Vega via USB (you must also have adb installed and Java RE). Looking at the source it effectively does what the OP suggested and uses adb to grab screenshots one after the other at about 4fps While it is supposed to support recording, I could not get it to work so used TipCam to create a test vid. http://download.cnet.com/TipCam/3000-13633_4-10796452.html Note its 20Mb so would not attach but here is a link ( my live wall paper is a good speed test!! ) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17486207/VegaTest.avi Messing about with resolutions and different screen capture programs could improve the result.
