Archos 5 Internet Tablet With Android ADB Connection Troubles

I am trying to transfer a file from my laptop (running on Windows Vista) to my Archos 5 Internet Tablet with Android using ADB connection through a USB cable. In my usb connection settings (on my archos) i select ADB. When i plug the usb cable into the archos my computer was trying to download driver software. however, it could not find the correct kind. i downloaded what archos's website said was the correct driver software and manually browsed through and selected to use it. when i did this the archos still did not show up in "my computer". i tried rebooting my archos and my computer and it still didn't work. now when i plug it in, it just says that the driver software was not successfully downloaded and i can't browse for the software manually. i REALLY need to be able to use the adb connection and ANY help would be greatly appreciated. thank you ahead of time :/
