Facebook is filtered in some countries. However Opera Mini can easily bypass government filters and open Facebook and sites like that.

How could this connection type be available for other applications like FriendStream? Is there any .apk application?

Opera Mini uses Opera's servers to compress/speed up traffic, so all commonication between your phone and destination site goes through those servers. I think that this is the reason why some sites are avaiable.. I guess.
