Guest admanirv Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 I noticed the inclusion of the giffgaff service on the custom rom, but dont know anything about them. Does anyone use them? At the moment I'm on o2 payg getting: I think its either 500mb or 1gb internet usage Free % of money back every quarter 300 texts 150 free off peak calls. For £15 a month Few questions please: 1. Is giffgaff cheaper than the above? 2. Whats coverage like (do they tie in with anyone else)? 3. Does it support 3g/H etc? 4. Is the service any good? 5. Do you get money to spend on calls at peak time, as with o2 i have to spend £10 for unlimited internet but i have £5 left over. Cheers
Guest hergetintin Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) 1. Is giffgaff cheaper than the above? £10 gets 150mins (250 atm), unlimited texts and unlimited data (really no limit) 2. Whats coverage like (do they tie in with anyone else)? piggybacks on the o2 network (giffgaff is owned by o2) 3. Does it support 3g/H etc? Yep 4. Is the service any good? Customer service is all online, and has been great when I had to use them. 5. Do you get money to spend on calls at peak time, as with o2 i have to spend £10 for unlimited internet but i have £5 left over. If you get goodybags you dont, but your minutes are cross network / all time. Let me know if you are looking to sign up as if you are refered both the referer and the referee get £5 on their accounts. Edited December 6, 2010 by hergetintin
Guest admanirv Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 http://giffgaff.com/index/offer Found their page doesn't look as appealing now especially internet usage after February.
Guest Odes1 Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 http://giffgaff.com/index/offer Found their page doesn't look as appealing now especially internet usage after February. They've been extending for about a year now, it was supposed to end this month but they bumped it along for another few months.
Guest Lew247 Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 http://giffgaff.com/index/offer Found their page doesn't look as appealing now especially internet usage after February. The internet thing after Feb ONLY applies if you dont have a goodybag as it stands now EVERYONE gets totally unlimited internet until Feb, After Feb Everyone on a goodybag of £10 and over gets Unlimited Internet
Guest Pully Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Whys that? The "free" internet that expires in Feb 2011 is only for people that do not take a goody bag. Goody bags that have data will still unlimited. If you use the forums and post replies etc you can earn payback every 6 months. I earnt around £20 in the couple of months just answering a few posts. I find them to be good value and haven't regretted my switch from O2.
Guest goldndelicious Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 http://giffgaff.com/index/pricing Is unlimited really unlimited? The answer is yes, we are unlimited for personal mobile use - but not for commercial and automated use. Mobile Internet allowances exclude PC use and tethering. Will goodybags still include unlimited Internet from the 28th of February 2011?Easy one. Yes!
Guest juniperz Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) http://giffgaff.com/index/offer Found their page doesn't look as appealing now especially internet usage after February. It all depends what happens with free internet - the original date for that to cease was May 2010, then I think there was another intermediate date, and now it is end of Feb 2011. Will they just keep moving the date forward, with no guarantees? Possibly. Good while it lasts though. This is just if you treat it as PAYG - if you use Goody bags, that is almost like a monthly contract and you do get included internet. I just moved my mum to giffgaff (wanted to get her on the o2 network because of poor other operator coverage where they live), and the support given by the "community" in the forum there is excellent - very helpful and far superior / faster than any conventional operator. Guest targetbsp Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Giffgaff is way better value. Look at the 'goody bags'. For £10 a month you get unlimited web, unlimited texts and 250 minutes at any time...
Guest ballist1x Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 im now on giffgaff on my dataphone. free web till feb for £10 is better than paying £5 a month for 50mb bolt on from orange!
Guest misterLjay Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) Giffgaff is all good, been with them since September, so far only spent £10 to activate the sim card, cheap flat rate calls and texts (even better value with a goodybag), free internet as previously stated and payback payment coming in a few weeks, best £10 I've ever spent on a network. Guest Azurren Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 The only real smartphone choices are: GifGaf - Above or T-Mobile - £20 for 6 months internet (3gb per month fair use) good for those who just want data
Guest tyfy Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Just to add that as far as I am aware the "free" internet without a goodie bag is limited to 100mb per day which I think is still very good.

Guest tyfy Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Yeah it is, my orange payg sim is only 100mb free / month And that is when you topup £10. Thats why I am moving.

Is that the case? As I pretty much just want data I think that'll be the option for me but not if it'll be horrendously slow. Edited December 6, 2010 by suzyb
Guest MIKEYMC Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 I'm on GiffGaff. Loving the unlimited data usage. Signal compared to orange and vodafone seem similar in suffolk and norfolk. Get 3G in same places near enough. Don't tend to call or text much so only have like 5 credit and then buy the £10 goody bag each month.
Guest admanirv Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Can you get away just topping up using a £10 goodybag and still get unlimited internet? Cheers
Guest jonathonf Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) As soon as you top up you get free internet (and have £10 credit for minutes/texts). You don't need to buy a goodybag (which is basically a minutes/texts bundle), they just tend to be better value for larger numbers of calls. The £5 lab looks quite interesting. If you want £5 extra credit when you top up look for people to send you a SIM (or you can order from their page). There are quite a few people on here who will be more than willing (as we get points in return)! Edited December 6, 2010 by jonathonf
Guest rbbrslmn Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 the free internet will end soon, the only reason for the current extension of free internet is that they hadnt ironed out the bugs in billing for it. that said the £10 goodybag is tremendous value I think and still the cheapest, whats not mentioned here is payback, you get money for posting in the help forums and for refering people to giffgaff, if they order a simcard through you (such as the link in my sig) then they get £5 credit and so do you, the payback can also be taken as cash into your paypal account. I joined on nov 19 and for making about 50 posts in 11 days on their support forums I got £23.

NO it wont end soon the free internet that ends in feb 2011 is for those who do NOT buy a goodybag, those that do get free internet every time they top up, it isnt ending. Just to add that as far as I am aware the "free" internet without a goodie bag is limited to 100mb per day which I think is still very good. that's just rubbish, its totally unlimited.

As I pretty much just want data I think that'll be the option for me but not if it'll be horrendously slow. I honestly don't know about this.. But it does seem that it is limited sometimes.. But then again signal and high 3g ping times can really throw off and I have nothing to compare it to But that said it is always fast enough to stream Youtube HQ videos without buffering and is sometimes faster than my home internet :S T-Mobile can also use orange 2g signal so coverage won't be a problem ;)

Guest syinet Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Hi, I'm on tesco mobile, they have a 1 month contract offer (sim only) on their website at the moment, 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb internet for a tenner. Their call centre is in o2's offices and they use their network, I've only been with them for a month but no problems so far, something to think about. http://www.tescomobilepaymonthly.com/produ...b8f9d9&so=1 matt
Guest Azurren Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 GiffGaff's comfusing.. There is conflicting info all over the web. The other day giffgaffs own site contradicted ifself more than twice.
