Guest stuartmc Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 The Orange SFO has just won Smartphone Essentials Magazine Best Value Smartphone in their 2010 Awards issue. It was up against the usual suspect HTC Wildfire etc. Hope the TFT screen doesn't change people's opinions, just bought White one in store for daughter's Christmas.
Guest Lollingsgrad Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 From what I'm hearing it's a very good TFT (better pixel density than the OLED?) and people are only finding out that there's aren't OLED by staring at the screen in the dark, or looking up the build version. Sooo... I guess that means that they can't really tell!

Sooo... I guess that means that they can't really tell! If you put the two types next to each other (I have both) it's obvious to me. The OED is significantly definitely better in my opinion, but the LCD is good too and does show icons in greater detail.
Guest Quicklite Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 It seems they say that OLED's PenTile tech means it only has two-thirds of the total number of sub-pixels found on an 800x480 LCD, so it won’t be quite as sharp as a typical 800x480 TFT display. You either have more vivid screen with greater contrast ratio and dynamic range. (OLED) or have have a plainer, but sharper, more accurate screen - in terms of colour (FTF) http://www.displaymate.com/Nexus_One_ShootOut.htm

The essence is that the OLED has visible gaps between the pixels, hence the TFT seems to produce better resolution by providing a noticeably smoother picture at the expense of colour detail.

That's good news and IMO well deserved! Thanks for sharing ;) x
