Guest EddyOS Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Thought people would be jumping around the room on the news the SDK is out and N1 OTA expected in a few weeks...
Guest bpivk Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) I was waiting for Gingerbread because they were talking about the new UI which was supposedly great and would eliminate the need for Sense. Then I've found some leaked pictures and it was just like Froyo. So I for one am greatly disappointed. It's ok and roms based on it will probably be ok but it's not (like google bragged) all that and a bag of chips. Edited December 6, 2010 by bpivk
Guest tuatha Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Yeah it looks very similar. I was hoping it would have equivalents to the HTC widgets like Friendstream, but it looks like they haven't bothered doing any of that stuff. Still no tabbed browsing either. I hate the browser interface in android. It's not at all convenient to switch between windows. Yet to find a third party browser with tabs that I actually like.
Guest bpivk Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Yet to find a third party browser with tabs that I actually like.Try Miren browser. I love it because it's similar to stock Android browser and has nice tabs.
Guest A380 Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Try Miren browser. I love it because it's similar to stock Android browser and has nice tabs. Thanks for that! Lovely browser.

Guest EddyOS Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 How has this turned into a browser thread?? And there's a Gingerbread hack of a ROM on XDA at present
Guest bpivk Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 How has this turned into a browser thread??Sorry EddyOS. I guess it was my fault when I answered his question. Back on the topic... I'm really disappointed with gingerbread because I've expected something way more.
Guest Shizophren Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Yeah me too! It looks like a pimped froyo! Thought there were super new visible changes in the ui! So we can hope for extrem under the hood improvement. But more speedier than froyo is? I don't think that these speedup wold be "feelable" but measurable.
Guest spammyspam Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Is it possible to use the stock N1 rom on a Desire with an adjusted partition table?
Guest EddyOS Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 No, not the I'm aware of. Once the OTA goes out to the N1 Paul and other Devs will get on it I for one will be waiting (read: hoping) for a Sense-based version
Guest EddyOS Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) No, it really isn't. It looks HORRID. Why can't Google add some style to Android?? They're going to have to if they do what they say they will with 3.0 and not allow 3rd party launchers Edited December 7, 2010 by EddyOS
Guest Catalin Desire Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 It's look versus speed...
Guest DragosP Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) Offtopic. I'm not sure you are 100% right. I'm using Paul's R24 rom (frg83d) with Launcher Pro and some little add-ons, and I don't need Sense. Edited December 7, 2010 by DragosP

I'm using Paul's R24 rom (frg83d) with Launcher Pro and some little add-ons, and I don't need Sense. It's not about that. Let me explain it this way. We are disappointed because Google said that Gingerbread will probably eliminate the need and option to use other launchers (that includes: Sense, Launcher Pro, Adw Launcher,...). So yeah you don't need Sense but you are using another launcher not the one that comes with stock android. And the one that comes stock is by my opinion ugly. they could at least implement a nice digital clock widget. So yeah 2.3 looks and feels just like 2.2 so no major visible changes. I hope that it's at least faster- Edited December 7, 2010 by bpivk
Guest DragosP Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 If you want beauty, look at iPhone. ;)

Guest bpivk Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) If you want beauty, look at iPhone. ;) I won't go there. Let me just say that my phone needs a screen with a lot of info on it. Not just a bunch of icons. I was thinking of buying an Iphone but then I looked and compared an Iphone and a HTC Tatoo android phone. Now I have my Desire. This is in no way bashing Iphones or stock android but my phone needs a lot of widgets and info on my screen and sadly neither iOS or stock android look good or useful to me. Plus I like to actually modify my phones and roms for it so Android it is. :P Edited December 7, 2010 by bpivk
Guest Aelred Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 All those looking for a new UI are probably referencing Gingerbread when it represented Android 3.0, of course now it's 2.3 it is going to look very similar to 2.2. Honeycomb is the one we're looking forward to ;)
Guest Paulo Nobrega Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Roms already started to appear http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863884

I hope that it's at least faster- Sense is more than just the launcher. I'm using LauncherPro instead of the Sense Launcher but I'm still sticking with Sense custom ROMs, due mainly to the good Facebook integration. I also prefer the Sense contact and dialer apps to the stock Android ones. Anyway, if Facebook gets around to fixing the contact sync in its own Facebook app, I'll consider trying an AOSP ROM like CM.
