Contacts Sync Problem

My LG540 android 1.6 can receive and send emails but I cannot syncronise phone contacts with google contacts. My online ggogle contacts is empty and my google contacts on the phone displays 400 contacts. I already tried LG software, PC Sync IV and it syncs everything but contatcs. LG tech support has suggest to reset phone and try google sync again. Won't I loose contacts and other applications info if I reset? I need to save contacts before I loose them. Can someone please help?
