Contacts Sync Problem

My LG540 android 1.6 can receive and send emails but I cannot syncronise phone contacts with google contacts. My online google contacts is empty and my google contacts on the phone displays 400 contacts. I already tried LG software, PC Sync IV and it syncs everything but contatcs, it says that phone is not responding. LG tech support has suggest to reset phone and try google sync again. Won't I loose contacts and other applications info if I reset? I need to save contacts before I loose them. Can someone please help?

IMHO

When you go to Gmail om your GT540 it will ask you to set your account information, email and password. After that it will sinc automatically all your data on phone and Gmail account. email, addressbook, planning and so on. If this does not function go to your settings, data synchronization and check if this is active.
