Guest trevor432990 Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Hi folks .... I managed to install v1.04 and r3 after I first got my Vega so I thought I'd try and update it to R4 with Performance Pack and Mini Notification Bar. I paid my dues to become an Ad-Free member and repaired to the kitchen where I ticked all the boxes needed and followed the instructions as Paul had set out * Ensure you have USB debugging enabled on your device (enabled in Settings->Applications->Development) CHECK * If you are using Windows, your USB 'Android Developer Bridge' driver MUST be the one included in this download (use 'Have Disk' functionality in device manager to change if required) CHECK I think as I unzipped the USB Driver into the same folder as ROM software * Download the zip file of your choice from the links below (or the online kitchen) and extract on your Windows PC, Linux PC or Mac CHECK * Connect your device to your PC CHECK * At a command prompt / terminal, ensure you are in the directory you extracted the files, and run 'install-windows.bat', './install-linux.sh' or './install-mac.sh' as appropriate CHECK * Wait for your device to reboot! smile.gif CHECK but nothing happened ;) During one attempt it displayed two lines about daemon something or other running on Port xxxx but nothing else whereas when I ran the v1.04 r3 upgrade it threw out a whole long list of things it was doing. I was already nervous about performing this update so would be obliged if someone can suggest what I might be doing wrong please ??
Guest arad85 Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 I was already nervous about performing this update so would be obliged if someone can suggest what I might be doing wrong please ??A driver issue. What OS are you on for this? I think you are running the drivers that came from the Advent site. There are known "issues" with Win7 x64, but I got around them by doing this: Plug in Vega in USB debugging mode (Settings->Applications->Development)Click on the USB safely remove devices icon in the taskbarBring up Devices and PrintersRight click Nvidia Harmony -> PropertiesSelect hardware tabSelect Android Debug Bridge Interface and select propertiesSelect Driver->Update Driver and then Browse my computer...Point the dialog at the directory you unzipped from Pauls download Well, that's what worked for me...
Guest jasonic8 Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) And if you have trouble getting the Harmony device to appear try uninstalling the Tegra 2 and USB Mass Storage device from the Device Manager and then rescanning - that worked for me. Edited December 7, 2010 by jasonic8
Guest trevor432990 Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) Thanks guys I followed your instructions Arad and changed the driver which brought up the Android Phone + ADB Interface + NVIDIA Tegra 2 (see pic) but when I go to the r4-vega-modacocustomromaddon-unsigned directory in cmd box and type install-windows.bat still nothing happens. I've attached a copy of the folder tree where I've installed the software and I am pretty sure it can't be picking up the wrong software. Edited December 7, 2010 by trevor432990
Guest jasonic8 Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 I'm stumped by your reply. The only thing I can think of is have you tried running as administrator?
Guest trevor432990 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Hi Jason ..... was running the update in a user with administrator rights so will wait and see what suggestions there are tomorrow. Thanks anyway ;)
Guest swarrans Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Hi Jason ..... was running the update in a user with administrator rights so will wait and see what suggestions there are tomorrow. Thanks anyway ;) I would try forcing windows to loaaad the specific driver paul provided again. I need to do this every time i do a rom update despite the fact it looks just like your screen shot - ie you think it must be using the right driver because it says all the right things aand yet it isn't This is the only painful part of vega ownership for me so far

Guest trevor432990 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Did try and overwrite the driver already but it says there is no point in installing as the driver software was already at the same version level so didn't push it any further. Nervous as I am of bricking my device somehow.
Guest trevor432990 Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Did you get this resolved ? No fraid not been waiting for Paul to get back to me when he reads my post. May try fiddling around with it again later but it's gonna be a busy day today.
Guest Gregga Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 No fraid not been waiting for Paul to get back to me when he reads my post. May try fiddling around with it again later but it's gonna be a busy day today. Yes, I've got EXACTLY the same problem! help!
Guest Paul Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 I don't have my Windows box to hand, but for those who have it working, what does the device show as in device manager? I suspect the wrong driver is being used? P
Guest TylerDurdenK Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 It shows in the Device Manger list as: Android Phone ---------->Android Composite ADB Interface
Guest Pantaloonie Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 It shows in the Device Manger list as: Android Phone ---------->Android Composite ADB Interface What he said. But it showed as Nvidia Harmony before installing the drivers.
Guest trevor432990 Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Thanks again for all the inputs guys. I did as Swarrans suggested and forced the PC to pickup the Vega again by unistalling the Android Phone & Nvidia Whatsit and then right clicked on computer name TREVORS and told it to scan for hardware chages, browsed the pop-up to the new driver location and that all worked nicely then when back into the cmd prompt and ran install-windows.bat and this time it ran without a hitch. Yippeee ! :)
