Guest ginnermark Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) Ok, I'm new to this on Android but was an old hand at it on WinMo 6.5... I've flashed my Desire for the first time tonight and I've failed. I'm stuck on the white screen with green HTC logo. Here's what I did: My Desire had 2.2 on it. I ran Unrevoked 3 (and did all the windows driver stuff) I rebooted, selected recovery mode I found myself in clockworkmod recovery 2.5.0.7 I selected "install zip from sdcard" Then "choose zip from sdcard" and chose r9-bravo-desire-modacocustomrom-withadditions-signed I picked out the yes from long list of nos I then got white progress text over box, arrow and android, saying: -finding update package -opening update package -installing update -formatting cache -deleting files -copying files -formatting system -copying files -lots of deleting files -formatting boot -writng boot -extracting radio image -installation complete -reboot via menu to complete I rebooted via the menu and got black screen with a box and and android next to it with an arrow it rebooted after about a minute to the htc loading screen And it's stayed there! Any help please. I have a dead Desire right now and it's embarrassing! Edited December 8, 2010 by ginnermark

Keep in mind however that it is normal to be on the HTC screen for a few minutes the first time after loading a new ROM. I've seen it for 5-10 mins before now. If this doesn't work pull the battery again and hold volume down and power to get back into the recovery menu and do all the wipe options, then try installing the ROM again.

So far (this time round) it's been about 25 minutes at the HTC screen. I am a little bit confused as to whether I rooted it with Unrevoked properly or not: I had the Superuser Permissions app on my apps menu; but at the HBOOT screen I have S-ON on the top line - I thought rooted devices had S-OFF. Going into recovery I get ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7. I'd also managed to run Nandroid backup before flashing. My HBOOT by the way, if it matters, is reported as 0.92.0001.

Give that man a star! I tried again to no avail. So then I wiped all the data and tried *again*. This time, rather pleasingly, it's worked. Thanks for the help. Advice to anyone else with this problem: WIPE your user data (after backing up) if you have a problem. The guides don't always say it's required but it really helped me. Right, now to sign up and try a custom ROM...

The guides don't always say it's required but it really helped me. Everyone SHOULD ALWAYS do a wipe even if the guide doesn't say so. Some people don't write because it's a common thing to do if you experience a problem. Unless you just update a rom (eg. MCR8 to MCR9). Then you don't usually need to wipe.
