Guest abdidas Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) I just recieved a replacement and it is B08 but I am sure that the screen is OLED. B08 can be for both OLED and LCD unless you get a white one which is pretty 100% TFT. My wifi is better atleast now, not excelent but better so it was worth the risk lol EDIT: its easy to test, if someone has oled or tft. just run the initial test by dialing *983*0# in the test menu there will be lcd (if you have lcd) or oled (if your device shipped with oled) option Edited December 28, 2010 by abdidas
Guest Winston69 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) Great another spoon into the mixer, ZTE or Orange are brilliant Edited December 8, 2010 by Winston69
Guest oh!dougal Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 The point I've been repeatedly making is that 05 gives true colours ONLY with OLED. If you have 05 working prettily, you definitely can ONLY have OLED. But 08 does support BOTH. Most (nearly all, it seems) of the current stock has LCD. So, if you buy a new phone with 08, its probably LCD. Its actually an EXCELLENT thing that ZTE should produce driver software that works (nicely) with both screen types.

Guest Simon O Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Well I have been told by a very reliable source that all future San Francisco devices will be LCD screened. Once the current stock of OLED units have run out then there will be no more.
Guest Shadey1 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 What utterly stumps me is my build number is listed as FRF91
Guest abdidas Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) For me also wifi is better with new stock rom 08 than previous one. It is definantly better, I don't think my issue was with the rom though cause I tried alot of custom roms and they were all the same in terms of the wifi. I use to get 1 dot or nothing when I was upstairs but now i get 3 bars which is a nice improvement and I am sure it is still an OLED screen but if it is LCD which I doubt then it is pretty damn good. Now I understand the other wifi issue with dropping after waking from sleep, I never tested this before because the signal was so bad to begin with lol. What was the fix for that again? Bladewififix or something. Edited December 8, 2010 by abdidas

Very good point, I just flashed B05 on it and it is working as before no problems with colours and the wifi is top notch, I am glad I swapped my old one for a new one that wifi problem was definantly hardware related.

I thought B05 can't work with LCD. My oled screen seems to give people a fake tan in pictures, they look very orange but that is to be expected. Gradients however don't flow properly, its like a steped effect intead of smooth, it doesn't seem to have 16 million colours. Is this a problem with the rom or my screen?

If you're talking about wallpapers, use Wallpaper Set And Save, it removes the banding.

Guest Lollingsgrad Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Orange seem to be intentionally obtuse on this issue, when I called up to ask if it was OLED or not they avoided answering the question, then said "the specs are what they are on the site" which I took to mean either: - I don't know what you're asking OR - The screen's downgraded but we're trying to gloss over it I actually don't know which I believe. I think reviews need to be redone in this light though, current ones lauding the phone like on techradar are going to be misleading now since the headline is "this screen is awesome".
Guest flatnote31 Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Quite worrying! My Power Button has died on me now (Well, it works but after many many deeeep pushing and not everytime!) I want to return it, but worried about LCD issue! Anyway to guarantee replacing with an OLED (through shop, phone....etc?)
Guest Simon O Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Anyway to guarantee replacing with an OLED (through shop, phone....etc?) Absolutely no guarantee now. Orange never advertised the phone as being OLED screened in the stores or online. It was other retailers and websites that gave this information out. All new phones have TFT screens. You can't get a replacement in store anyway after 14 days so you would need to call Orange up and they will send a replacement phone to you without a battery and battery cover which you then swap with yours, although some people have reported that Orange sent a full boxed phone as a replacement. Honestly people should now start forgetting about OLED screens. There is no easy way to find out if the phone is OLED or not in store and you certainly cannot check this online or by telephone. So just assume that any phone you buy or get as a replacement from now on is TFT and if you do get an OLED consider it a bonus.

Cheers Flb, quite annoying since my SF is running nicely, so taking a gamble with a new handset is tricky....a dead power button is a major pain though. Might take my chances after all. Thanks again :)

Is it worth the effort to send back my newly brought cell phone (B08, so with TFT display) if it has a vertical blue stripe in black-white (grey) gradient test, an now in other apps? what is the chance that the replaced one should not have this kind of fault? There is also a small light, that can be seen above the top pixels, mainly on the left side, like the display is not totally horizontally fit to the phone's body. Although the display seems clear and beautiful during average usage IMHO.. Edited December 9, 2010 by HulkHogan
Guest accy123 Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 have a B05 which is definetly OLED screen. Had a B08 delivered today and can confirm it is 100% OLED Don't asume if its B08 it is likely to be TFT

Guest flatnote31 Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I have just received my replacement, and it is GREY, f/w is B08, and screen is definitely OLED ....no edge/back lights.... blacks are totally black...pixels are staggered not aligned, and that lovely greyish/pink tint in white in low screen brightness :) :) Actually, so far, from all reported, I haven't seen anyone who bought Grey SanFran from Orange (B05 or B08) and found it LCD !

I bought a white one last week for my gf for Christmas, and that was TFT. Went into the Orange shop late last week, and got them to open and switch on a grey one, that had build B08, and was TFT. Bought one of eBay (new) for a bit of a premium that has the OLED screen (£130 inc del.) Seeing as I would have had to pay £120 for one in an Orange Shop (£20 credit) and I have an Orange contract and wouldn't use the credit, I see this as a £10 premium - worthwhile?
Guest jdlk Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Actually, so far, from all reported, I haven't seen anyone who bought Grey SanFran from Orange (B05 or B08) and found it LCD ! Well I got mine from Orange (B08) and I'm pretty sure mine is TFT (looks backlit, neutral white, border around screen) and I think people should stop worrying about it. The TFT screen is good and sharp and at the right brightness levels the black is decent. It's still a very good phone for the money.

TFT or OLED... for £85 (that's what I paid) ...it's still BRILLIANT! I wasn't complaining or dissing the TFT...I was just wondering if someone found a grey TFT... that's all :) I'm getting the white one for the mrs :)
