Guest Thmz159 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Hi, I've just downloaded Quick SYstem Info and it says our liquid only has 185 MB RAM! Is it a fault in the app? Or does our liquid really have only 185 MB or is it because of the older kernel 2.6.29? But I thought that kernel could use 256 MB ram. If it couldn't, we must really try to get the newer kernel because our liquids A1 have few memory free with some apps on. Greetz! ;)
Guest Pullaah Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Android needs some space for the operatin system in ram
Guest Piter1225 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Radio module (GSM, GPS, etc) uses some of the RAM also
Guest Harness Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) I'd assume it's a bug in the software. The Liquid has 256mb, the Liquid E has 512. Edited December 8, 2010 by Harness
Guest Koki1337 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 I'd assume it's a bug in the software. The Liquid A1 has 256mb, S100 has 512mb That would be irrelevant. The OS itself needs RAM to run your home screen, your apps, your services, GPS, WiFi/3G, everything
Guest Intenso74 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 I'd assume it's a bug in the software. The Liquid A1 has 256mb, S100 has 512mb Not true. S100 = European A1, so with 256MB
Guest Harness Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Not true. S100 = European A1, so with 256MB My bad D: I was under the impression S100 = LiquidE. Furthermore, you have 256mb of ram and it is being used, just not by running processes. Anything onboard will take up ram pretty well, and since phones are all onboard...
Guest Thmz159 Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Ok thanks. I thought it was like in windows where you can see in the taskmanager how much memory you have, and the system can use and how much is used. Still, the A1 (S100) really needs optimizations for memory usage ;)
Guest fear_factory84 Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 all android phones have this behaviour... for example an htc dream with 192mb of ram shows 90mb of total ram...
Guest studjuice Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 all android phones have this behaviour... for example an htc dream with 192mb of ram shows 90mb of total ram... with the dream there was a new radio that came out, and ezterry made a kernel that could gain back 15mb of that missing ram. I wonder if that's possible for us?
Guest xaueious Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 (edited) ezterry didn't make that radio. HTC shipped it with the OTA Android 2.2 update for ADP 2, and ezterry modified it to work for the Dream and Magic so it wasn't 'perfected' anymore. It was more about modifying what HTC released.
