Guest aintcrackedityet Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) Hi all, Just received the vega from dixons after a two week wait so thought it is time to join the crew. I have had a gander through some posts and am well impressed with the information here. As it turned out, im glad I did join, because I can't get the vega to get an IP address from my Netgear DG834G router. It can see my network and tries to connect after entering my passkey but it fails. My laptop, wifes phone and sons htc phone connects ok. So my first query to you all is, what's going on here and do you have any suggestions. Thanks all, aintcrackedityet Edited December 8, 2010 by aintcrackedityet
Guest What If Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Sounds like your password might be incorrect. If you are typing it in with the power lead in then you sometimes get a double tap so you aren't typing in what you think. When the power lead is not in it types better. Try it and see if it solves the issues. Is your router a Sky one?
Guest removed-14 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Try updating the firmware of your router. I have the same model and needed to do that. Occasionally I have had to reboot my router to fet it to connect but only once or twice.

If you go to the Netgear website here you will see them listed and the firmware versions are all different for each. I'm on the latest firmware on mine and I can confirm that the Vega connects fine. If you have turned on Wi-fi and entered the correct password but still nothing happens, check which security protocol you are using WEP, WPA and compare with Vega settings it is also worth setting a static IP route on the router for the Vega/s to be sure there isn't a conflict happening with other devices. You need to enter the MAC address for the device in the LAN IP Setup option. To get the MAC address use SETTINGS > ABOUT DEVICE > STATUS and it's listed there. Let us know how you get on ;) Edited December 8, 2010 by trevor432990

Thanks all, aintcrackedityet It's ok now, I changed my security from wep only to wep/wpa and it connected straight away. Quite impressed so far as long as you don't tip the screen too far forward. Now for the mod !!!!!!!! this will be a laugh. aintcrackedityet
Guest obb Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 You really shouldnt be using WEP on your router at all. Its easily crackable and someone else could be stealing your bandwidth.

Agreed, unless you have an ancient device that only supports WEP, don't use it at all and even then I would consider replacing such a device.

I'm in the same boat. I tried everything to get my Vega Connected, changed channels, setup a static IP and changed from WEP to WPA-PSK but with no results. I came to the conclusion that it was broke and drafted a query to Dixons re replacement. then I had an after thought and disable the protection altogether and blow me it connected. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong ?

Guest boffboff Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 Well if it connects with security disabled then it's definitely a password or encryption problem. Do you have a WPA2 setting in the wireless section on your router's config page? Try changing it to that. The password is the other obvious thing, if the Vega has remembered your wifi settings then try removing your wifi and then reconnecting and re-entering your details.

I found the problem and all is well now. My Router (KCorp Lifestyle KLG575 ) has all the security settings so I presumed that when changing from WEP to WPA-Psk that WEP was automatically disable but this was not the case, you had to disable it separately. Once I did this it connected first time.
