Skype on SanFrancisco - Anyone got it working smoothly

I have installed the Skype app from the market but am finding that on login it takes a minute or so for the user (me) to appear online on another San Francisco.

Both are using GiffGaff / O2.

Making a skype<>skype call typically fails to signal at the receiving end and on the few ocassions that I have mestablished a connection the audio is just a few broken milliseconds of audio interspersed with clicks and pops.

Suffice to say it's not working.

Both SF's are setup identically and work with general internet browsing over WiFi, G and 3G.

I've also been getting very poor latency issues with Sipdroid from my VoIP provider.

Are there any special settings or guide for correctly configuring Skype or other VoIP apps on the SF?

The Android Skype app is crap. Audio quality is terrible even on fast devices like the Milestone 2.

The one on the market is 'bloatware' and takes up too many resources to be functional. Look for an 'old' sky beta lite app (you'll have to google for it), it is much better. I have it running on my SF and works great over wifi, haven't tried it on 3G as I don't want to use unnecessary data.

Good luck !

For me Skype works perfectly (and it ever did). There's no lag at all and the sound is crystal clear. It also takes only a few seconds to login. I ran it on 2.1 and 2.2 MCR and never had problems with it. In fact I was really blown away by how good it works compared to my first Android phone (T-Mobile Pulse). By the way, I'm using the Market version, not the Beta one.

Best regards,

BB

It's not clear to me that IMO Instant Messenger is an audio AND text client. I find 'chat' ambiguous. If it is audio then it looks good and not a little surprising as I had thought Skype's protocol was secure to them.

Curious about your working Skype though and I am wondering about some setting I have not set, or configured wrongly for my O2/GiffGaff account.
