Guest wunderlicious Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Hi, I already have a grey one with OLED but just ordered a white one. Can I swap the screen around as I'd like to keep the white but would like OLED screen inside? thanks, ash Quote from Paul's Twitter: Awesome... after some (VERY) simple phone transplant work, I now have an OLED equipped white San Fran and a TFT equipped black one. ;) Seems possible. Very possible.
Guest Ash.UK Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Paul, Can you please elaborate? Ash
Guest StevenHarperUK Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Paul, Can you please elaborate? Ash Must be easier to just swap the case.....
Guest BigBearMDC Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Paul, Can you please elaborate? Ash Actually that shouldn't be a problem as long as the display's controller sits on the display itself and not on the phones PCB. If not there might be a problem. I guess the controller sits on the display though. Best regards, BB

Guest lolwot Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 Same here, a how to would be useful... I just bought what must be the last oled from an orange shop yesterday. Problem is, the screen doesn't respond to touch AT ALL. Do you think, if I bought another SF (it will now be TFT obviously), that I can swap the screens around? Or does swapping the screens round mean you swap the digitizer along with it as well?
Guest Sebastian404 Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 take the back cover off your SF, there are 7 screws..... undo them, and see what happens...
Guest lolwot Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 (edited) undone the 8 screws and taken the front cover off, so now I have the whole circuitry in my hands. Is it possible to swaps screens anyone? Edited December 12, 2010 by lolwot
Guest Azurren Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 undone the 8 screws and taken the front cover off, so now I have the whole circuitry in my hands. Is it possible to swaps screens anyone? If at all possible swap the covers don't touch the screen.. If not then it's probably best to get detailed instructions :)
Guest lolwot Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 If at all possible swap the covers don't touch the screen.. If not then it's probably best to get detailed instructions :) Hmm I don't understand, unless... is the digitizer built into the cover?
Guest nedian05 Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 If at all possible swap the covers don't touch the screen.. If not then it's probably best to get detailed instructions :) I had an OLED SF, I accidently washed that in washing machine while it was in my jeans. I undone all the screws too, I would be very much intrested in knowing that if I can test the screen on newly bought TFT SF. As OLED SF does not power up and I have considered that for spare or repair.
Guest Ash.UK Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 Well I took off the eight or so screws and underneath looked quite complicated to change screen so I put it back together only to find out the touchscreen does not work now!!!! :P I've since reopened it and tried to see if there are any missing wire etc but all seems ok but the touch screen still doesnt work!!!( Now I have a phone with hardly or no signal (new white tft) and an oled one that was fine but now the screen doesn't work! :) :) :(

Guest Ash.UK Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 The screen power up but the touchscreen bit doesnt work...also when I took it apart one of the screws was covered up by a small white tamper sticker which I had to break to open....orange will argue I tampered with it !

Have you seen the sticker? Just hole punch some white paper, then empty the container of the hole punch, cut to size and stick it back on there! After taking off the 8 screws, you can take off the plastic housing it's holding in. Then, you can easily remove the front cover & digitiser from the main circuit board by undoing the tiny clip which holds the cable for the digitiser. Swapping should be easy I reckon.
Guest wanny2 Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Can anyone shed any light on this subject? I have a semi faulty, grey blade and about to pickup a new white one in the next hour or so. The grey one has an OLED screen, and I hazard the white one will have the tft. Is it a simple switch job?

I cant remember who it was here but I sold my sisters busted TFT phone (the mic had died) to someone who had killed his OLED screen and he fixed it easy enough. it is 'simple' but apparently a false move can kill teh screen, its probably not a task for someone who hasnt tinkered before.
Guest wanny2 Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Oh, i'm a seasoned tinkerer  Just didn't want to open the pair to find they weren't compatible. Thats my next hour sorted. Cheers
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Paul Obrian did it (see his post) So it's possible
