Guest bigklan Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 So I have a blade - I am always on this forum checking out what is going on, etc and have a lot of trust in teh crowd that hangs out here. So here is my question - Although I don't mind the minor glitches, etc of having a blade and a rom that is not 100% perfect, I am trying to get my dad into android. Budget is not a concern (his work is paying). What is THE BEST android device currently available in terms of quality of experience and stability. Is it unfortunately the nexus 1 / desire still? Thanks!
Guest PeTiNgA Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) IMHO, just wait a few weeks for Nexus S ;) If you need a physical keyboard, probably Desire Z Edited December 9, 2010 by PeTiNgA
Guest ricer Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Havent heard many good things about the Samsung Galaxy but the hands on look I had with it was wonderful.

Thanks! Is he a technical guy? I like Android but I think it's a better user experience for those who like to hack and customise. If my mum wanted a fancy phone I'd point her towards iPhone, especially if budget isn't a concern. Not saying Android isn't great out the box, I just think iOS comes better set up as-is.

Exactly my feelings. Android is for people who love tweaking things, isn't afraid to lose everything and start again, and isn't afraid of having things die on them and have to force close them. iOS on the other hand just works, but isn't very individual to each person. It all depends on what he wants.
Guest m_w_clarke Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 In terms of experience I would have to recommend an HTC phone (Desire or Desire HD) over the either of the Nexus phones. The HTC Sense will give them a better experience rather than the raw android. Where as for most peopl eon this form I would expect the pureness of the Nexus phone to have a play with. Horses for courses.
Guest goatee Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 If they want a hard keyboard, the HTC Desire Z. Otherwise, if they want a ludicrously big screen, the HTC Desire HD, otherwise, the HTC Desire. The Nexus S is just a disappointing revision of the Samsung Galaxy S (which is a fine phone in its own right), and imfao, the Desire is a better phone than the Galaxy S.
Guest strat.minger Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 +1 for the Desire (Z for Keyboard, HD For huge screen, normal otherwise). However if you are willing to 'help' with the initial setup I would go for Nexus 1 or Nexus S, but for general user experience 'Out of the Box' it has to be a HTC. Plus with the Nexus' (Nexi?) you are going to get the latest and greatest version of Android sooner than with the HTC's. Put it this way; I have recommended the Wildfire to a mate who lives miles away, and the Blade for a guy I work with. (I can help with the guy I work with but not the one miles away!) Oh another thing does he want to use RSAP, Remote SIM Access Profile or something, basically for use in the car saves battery etc... Then the only Android at the mo that does this is, i believe, the Galaxy S. Hope that is of some help! Strat
Guest TheScrub Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Any of the HTC Desires Agreed, except for perhaps the wildfire. Why so many people preaching about the Nexus S already? It has no LED notifications, no SD slot and doesn't shoot in 720p (hw/sw limitation unknown), don't know about you guys but two of those are a deal breaker for me.

Everyone is different - none of those really interest me , so not a huge deal that they are missing. SD card slot would be nice, but with 16gb it isn't a necessity.

Wildfire is ok depending on budget/what they actually want. Not preaching about the Nexus S, but it is the Google Phone so therefore should be supported best in the near future. LED notifications are nice, 16gb internal don't really need more than that really, and I have a camcorder to record HD and a DSLR for photos so...
Guest Azurren Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Nexus s.. Without an SD card slot is a deal breaker, but if it has more than 16gb internal then it means nothing to the likes of me :P I only ever use a 4gb card anyway ;) It will continue to be updated with the latest android versions for a long time to come.. But if this is your farther (Who probably doesn't care) then the Desire Z (With the QWERTY keyboard) would probably be the best choice! It looks goooooooooood :P Oh and the specs are top notch too
Guest veehexx Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 based purely on TheScrub's nexus S drawbacks, i'd have one in an instant. non are a dealbreaker, although i would like (preference, not requirement) SD card slot. i'd sugest the legend over the wildfire though. far superior screen res for similar size&spec phone. i was looking at those 2 before i found the SF. SF won on price. other wise it'd be a legend..
