Desire Auto Rotate issue

Hey,

I hope some can help me. I spilled a little of tomato soup on my Desire yesterday. Obviously I quickly cleaned it off and thought nothing of it. However, for some reason now auto rotate, even when turned off in the system settings, still kicks in. I HATE auto rotate and find it a nuisance. Is there a chance that the accelerometer is broken/damaged? iv searched the net to find out where in the handset the acceleremoter is located, but have not been successful. I have also performed a hard reset! would reinstalling the kernel sold this issue??

I find it very strange that this is the ONLY issue that im having!!!

Any help is greatly appreciated as I am stumped with to the answer
