HTC Desire HEELP!

Hey! Okey here is the story

first i rooted and installed R8 custom ROM for my HTC Desire some time in September

after a few weeks i couldn't move apps to my SD card anymore and i have to try atleast 2 times in settings, applications to be able to move a file that is already moveable.

So i got tired of it i bought 1 year subscription and installed R9 custom ROM with A2SD+

and now i have 2 mb internal storage left and i still can't move a single file

Please help me fix this!!

and yes i do have storage left

Edit: i managed to solve it by installing an app called enable APPS2SD but now when i try to install apps from the market it says can't install unknown reason 18- i found that i could unmount my SDcard so when i did that it said that it could find the SD card to install it on

It would be awesome if some one could help me fix this both so i can download apps and move apps2sd

If I remember you correctly you used A2SD+ and installed your apps to SD. Here is your problem. You leave apps on internal memory because the files found in /data actually reside on your SD card. Moving them to SD will usually have adverse effects resulting in even less internal memory.

I don't know about the app but you should do a full wipe if you can, install a2sd+ and install apps like normally.

This is what i did when i installed the R9 root.

i installed it and when it was done and had rebooted i had only 2 mb of internal memory

and i couldn't move apps. i looked in titanium backup and i had 3 different memory drives

1. Internal

2. Sd Card

3. SD Card (a2sd)

so i installed an app called

Move2SD Enabler.

and finally i could move apps but now when i was going to download an app it said unknown reason -18 and it failed.

and it doesn't work when i unmount my SD card

Did you do a full wipe before you installed R9? Because you should have waaaay more that 2mb left. If I remember correctly you should have about 140mb left.

And don't unmount your card. Why would you even do that.

I suggest that you wipe your phone and reinstall R9.

It was posted on a forum that i would be able to install apps if i did..

so i can just do a backup on all my apps and then reinstall them when i have wiped and reinstalled R9?

You've installed your rom and is fresh? You didn't install any more apps or restored some via titanium?

I suggest that you use Root explorer or some similar app and go to /data folder. Then report the used and free numbers. Do the same for /data/data folder. We'll see what's using all your space. Also use Quick system info and report how much a2sd is using. Maybe a2sd isn't working. I don't exactly remember how much r9 used but I'm almost sure that a working a2sd gives you more than 50mb.

Edit: But 50mb is still a lot more than 2mb. :)

How did you partition your card and how big are those partitions?

Did you partition FAT32 and then EXT3?

A2SD+ won't work if you don't partition your SD card correctly. Use any linux live distribution like ubuntu or something similar and run gparted. Then partition your SD card so that you make two partitions. First partition has to be FAT32 and the second EXT3. You mustn't have any unpartitioned space left or your SD card. 1gb is enough for EXT.

You can find a lot of great howtos if you search for them on the internet. Once you partition your card wipe and install the new rom. Your trouble could be because you're using a2sd without properly setting up your SD card?

Didn't you read the instructions?

To use A2SD, you should partition your SD card to have a FAT32 partition first, then an EXT3 partition second.

You need the EXT partition at the end of the SD card, and the FAT32 partition at the beginning.

The phone is working normally. Your phone will think that it's on his internal storage but it isn't. Your internal storage will still decrease though because the app cache is still left on your phone.

Some apps will install on your SD card but there isn't a lot of them. Don't bother about that and stop looking at that screen. Your phone is working normally now. :)

Just for referece:

A2SD moves the /data directory to your SD card so your phone thinks that the apps are on internal memory but they aren't (quick system info will report that).

i now have 479 MB A2SD storage 391 left

A2SD won't move the /data/data directory which holds the app cache so that WILL use some internal memory.

Okey, are you sure? :) because when i installed Ex. Angry Birds the A2SD memory didn't change but the internal did.

And another thing i copied my whole SD card to a file on my computer. can everything over to my SD card again? or atleast some of them?

No I'm not sure without looking at your phone. But there is a very simple way to check if it works correctly. Use root explorer or any other file explorer that shows root files. Go to the /data directory and root explorer shows the amount of internal storage. If it's the size of your EXT partition then it works correctly.

Also Angry birds installed on my SD card on my phone. Some apps install on SD and it's ok. Big apps like angry birds and similar games will also use a lot of internal storage because they need a lot of cache which eats internal storage as I've said previously.

Okey so if it's the size of my EXT partition i can transfer back all my apps?

You can transfer anything you wish just don't touch the ext partition. Because you'll do more harm than good if you tamper with ext partition with the amount of knowledge you have.
