Guest tdeadvent Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Hi Like my last message - I am new to all of this, so pls be gentle.... We have purchased advent vega for our daughter for xmas, but I am obviously having a good play before hand so I can show her how to use it (although she will probably not need any help) She uses the internet mainly for childrens websites, and playing games on the likes of cbeebies - a lot of these games require keyboard (arrow keys) or mouse control - and although I fully understand I am using different technology - is there anyway that a keyboard/pad can be pulled up when playing... any help, would be very much appreciated
Guest warriorscot Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 The default keyboard doesn't do arrows as far as I have seen. But if you replace it with smart keyboard pro you can turn on arrow keys in settings as one of the layout options on the 123 key so one press takes you to the numbers and additional punctuation and another takes you to the arrows. You can also adjust things like button height. A long press of the menu key pulls up the keyboard anywhere however I can only get that to work with one of the volume keys remapped to be the menu button as the software home and menu buttons in the menu bar both have problems detecting a long press.

The main problem I am finding all the games and stuff which they play on my iphone are not available on android and the selection that are available are poor in comparison so that I wondered what if any good apps/games that you have got that work ok on the Vega? Thanks

If and when I come across any, I'll let you know... Just about to try to download the MoDaCo customer rom add on - then I'll start again trying to sort keyboard If you get any joy with anything, I'd be extreemly grateful if you could let me know... Thinking we maybe should have stuck with netbooks ???

What age is your daughter because mine are 3 and 5 so if they are of a similar age I can give you a list of what I have tried and found to work kind of ok (some better than others) on the Vega. As for the custom rom it makes the Vega but I would also recommend the performance pack. I have tried a few games on the cbeebies site and some are ok with touch screen but others are not Zing Zillas being a prime example but to be honest I am still glad I did get netbooks but there is still part of me thinking I should have got ipads even though they don’t support flash because the quality of the apps kind of makes up for it.

I have spent most of the time just sorting one of them out to extent that i can not remember on what i have done and installed so when it comes to the other one it should be fun. I have just tried a few more cbeebies games and they seem to be ok with the touch but the flash games seem to run a little slow. I can i you want do you a list of the apps/games that i downloaded so far which might be of use you. I dont know what it is at the minute but i can just not get it quite right to be happy enough to wrap it up and sort the next one. Ive seen other peoples home screen which look really good but i can not seem to to make mine look anywhere near as good and with the limited amount of time i have to sort things (when the kids are in bed) its even harder
