Hi, is it possible to use Google Docs on the Vega, right now it won't see it as an Android device to work with the new google docs for mobile.

It thinks its a desktop browser requiring a physical keyboard.

Cheers

No, you can use Google docs, but you can only edit docs that have been created using the latest version of the document editor. You need to change your settings. In Docs, go to Settings and in the editing tab, tick "Create new text documents using the latest version of the document editor".

Unfortunately documents created in the older format can't be edited. Besides, the new docs format sucks, imho.

With the Dolphin HD browser and user Agent set to Desktop, I loaded a Spreadsheet. It appeared just like on my laptop and functionality worked.

My account is set to the new version of the Editor.

Also, when you select a text area, the virtual keyboard of the Vega should pop up. No physical keyboard required.

When in "desktop mode", I found that simply touching the screen wouldn't bring up the keyboard (it does in the horrible "mobile" mode). With my remapped volume buttons (home+menu), however, it does work. It's not too bad actually.

Ah, I mis-read the original post. Doh! Seeing the same thing as woutxz - keyboard will not pop. They must be using another object type for text.

FYI, using the iPad setting is terrible for editing Word docs.

He is using smart keyboard pro which is also what I use and with a few tweaks in settings its probably the best keyboard you can get on the Vega. Although the tapntap keyboard is also decent. When you add in remapped hardware buttons it makes a big difference to how usable the vega is day to day.

I am indeed using smart keyboard pro, and I totally agree with the last statement.

Anyone getting Google Docs working nicely and any tips?

With the Google Docs settings changes to the new doc format, I can only edit in mobile view via Dolphin. Stock browser or Dolphin/Desktop wont bring up a keyboard for me.

gDocs app will let me input text, but won't show changes til I close the edit window, not great for the iffy Vega keying.

Cheers

Yep I'm the same cannot get the keyboard up. Rather annoying to say the least and I have no solution for it beyond remapping the buttons which isn't simple.

I e-mailed the developer of button Savior asking if he could make a long-press of the menu button bring up the soft keyboard. This is his reply.

"Sounds like a good idea to implement. But I need to figure out if it is possible to bring up S/W keyboard programatically. If it is possible, I will add it to my app soon. Best regards, Jerry Fan ▶"

So with luck we'll have a fix soon.

Its a 30 second job with root file explorer it couldn't be more simple all you are doing is opening a file and changing two words. There is a guide in the forum its probably the easiest modification to make to your vega on the whole site it doesn't even need adb.

Could you point us to the guide? A search just brings up your mentions of one. TIA
