Hi,

Because many of us are having lockscreen freezes, let's try to do something to find out what could be the cause.

I'm still trying to get a logcat when this happens, but unfortunately it keeps occurring during the day and I can't afford until I get home to use adb :)

Anyway, as you may have noticed, not everyone is affected by this, so what I would like to ask, is to everyone that have this problem installs aTrackDog ( http://www.appbrain.com/app/atrackdog-trac...phone.aTrackDog ) and attach here the list of apps installed on your SF, ROM and SF version (Orange OLED/Optimus TFT/...).

With some luck, the lockscreen freeze is caused by an application and we can find out which is by comparing which applications are installed in each one of us that have this issue.

My log is attached on this post.

On my phone I have had tried alphas 2 - 4. I started seeing lock screen freezes on alpha 3. However, at this time I set the Nexus live wallpaper too. I experiences several lock ups. I now have reverted to the stock wallpaper that comes with the build and things are back to being OK. Your mileage may vary of course, but I am happy so far.

Regards

John

Since switching to the stock lockscreen i have had no freezes. Can anybody confirm that they still have the freeze on stock lockscreen? I hated the ZTE one!

I have installed from the Kitchen on Pauls froyo just the core system with no extra apps and still screen freezes.

I think it is a problem with the actual kernel not an application.

I had my first screen freeze with Paul's alpha 4.

I downloaded setCpu from market and set minimum cpu speed to 320Mhz. I am hoping this will stop the SF from freezing again. Admittedly, I'm not sure if the setcpu will help. I will report back if it does freeze again though.

:)

I get the lockup every now and then with different roms and applications.

I had it with Handcent - whenever a text came in the screen would freeze on the popup. I've disabled the popup and so far it seems to be more stable :)

For me with the alpha 3 MCR prebake I just had one single screen freeze... Using alpha 3 for more than a week now and the one screen freeze was one day after the flash.

Handcent does not cause any problems for me. i'm using the popup, and it never froze the screen...

Phone is a SF with OLED display.

There is a case in Portugal with a Sapo A5 (ZTE Blade rebrand) that has the same problem, only it is 2.1 and not 2.2.

The next video ilustrates the problem and a "trick" to solve it. Any of you interested in trying?

I experienced 4 screen locks yesterday when I hadn't had any for over 50 hours before. I'm running the Froyo Alpha 4 rom. I have been keeping wifi and 3G off unless using the phone and didn't get locks. Each time had the lock yesterday I'd forgotten to turn wifi off. Only other thing was that I'd installed Bump

Bizarre... it looks as if he's inducing the freeze by squeezing the case and then sounds like it's popping free to fix it... not sure that's what people are epxeriencing when it freezes after being left overnight.

yeah my lockscreen was freezing up quite a bit as well, it also used to lag heavily. Switch to the pattern unlock, neither does it lag, nor has my phone frozen on my since ive started using it.

So there's no definite reason why this is happening then...

I've got r4 on mine and it didn't freeze for the first week... not it's freezing on a daily basis and I haven't changed anything! No new apps or anything.

I can confirm that no amount of poking, prodding or squeezing would restore my touchscreen to life. I don't know if it is a coincidence that I always have notifications showing on my bar when the touchscreen locks up.

:) Very strange indeed.

I only had one freeze and I've been running Alpha 4 since it came out (3 weeks now?)

i havent used the latest alpha4 from paul, but have has lock screen issues from the initial 2.2, and on the alpha3 release, and every iteration of 2.2 inbetween

it doesnt appear to be a market app (went with stock rom install at one point).

it's the ONLY thing thats stopping me using 2.2. all the other bugs im aware of, are not a deal breaker for me. the freezing is! i'll be following this thread incase someone does find a solution...

On my third lock up this morning - no notifications were showing on the bar this time (although I had got a load of emails in my gmail account so the notifications may have been on the way!)

going on fiendishlyclever's reply above, is anyone willing to put the phone into aircraft mode to see if it's a notification issue? (aircraft might not stop ALL notifications or it's service, but would stop 99% of notifications)

The screen freezes are a really strange problem as they do not appear on any phone...

I got an OLED UK San Francisco and run the alpha 3 prebake version from Paul. I had one single freeze right after the flash of the new rom. Since then I did not have any further freezes and I use the rom for 10 days or more now...

I think that it's maybe not an app problem but something hardware related...

But I still hope that someone figures out what really causes the problem!

It is definitely not hardware related as it only happens with froyo ROMs.

The only useful suggestion until now was to use the pattern unlock screen as some users stated they didn't have freezes using that.

I'm 'testing' atm, but will take at least 24h.

Anyone else with freezes: Use pattern unlock and report back if you still get any freezes.
