Dell Streal update 2.2

Hey guys,

I AM a totally beginner, if I should do anything "special" to my phone... :P Tim from Germany.

And of course have some questions, need some hints in updating the Streak to 2.2...

It is a simlock-free Dell Streak from UK with the following datas...

Firmware: 2.1-update1

Baseband: GAUSB1A120231-EU

Kernel Version: 2.6.29-perf

OEM Version: GAUSB1A12231

Build Number: 6941

Yesterday I tried to install Android 2.2 hours over hours. :(

At first the system update link was wrong (something with "...update.zingstaging..." etc.). Found the correct link, made a download on my IMAC (this is the next problem, which I describe later on), renamed the file to "Update.pkg" and put it on the SD-card as mentioned in the net.

Then I shut down the device, pushed both buttons of the loudness and the turn-on-switch, chosed no. 2 system update. After that I pushed the shutter button and the update begun.

There was this white box with an orange arrow and the green Android guy. After about a quarter (1 minute?) the phone stopped and a trinangle with an exclamation mark appeared instead of the box. The phone shut down and booted again with Android 2.1. Everything is working as before.

So, where is the mistake? What did go wrong there?

What did I do wrong with the update???

Read something about "rooting" the device and "baseband 1.4.xx" - don´t even know, what that means... Has that also something to do with the update?

Is there any kind of "knowledge base" here in the forum - don´t wanna ask such easy questions... Shame on me... :)

Next question:

my information is that Dell doesn´t have the PC-suite for Mac.

That´s a pity!

So how can I do my sync with contacts, calendar etc. in an easy way?

Guys, thanks a lot for your help.

It is always difficult, if you are no specialist and have few time to learn and read. :)

Have a nice day, hopefully there will be some hints, which can help me out of my problem...

Best regards.

Tim

P.S: Perhaps there exists a "step-by-step-guide" for the stupid (german ) users... This would of course be the best solution... *LOL
