I'm using Pauls excellent modaco custom ROM and I baked with A2SD+ which has been perfect.

Well my 16GB microSD card has died and so currently I'm using a 4GB one with a 1.5GB ext3 partition.

I've tried using loads of different program to reduce the size of that partition to 750MB just to give my storage a little more breathing space but every time I put the card back into my phone it hangs at the HTC screen.

Does anyone know why and what I can do about it?

Thanks

It sounds like you phone is struggling to mount the ext partition.

Do you have a nandroid backup of your ROM? The partition has not been restored to the SD card unless you have restored a backed-up ROM.

Assuming you have a backup, boot the phone into recovery. Restore the ROM which will restore the ext partition and then reboot the phone....

Many thanks for the reply. I had taken a backup of the SD card using Acronis True Image. I restored the image and the phone was OK again.

Eventually I managed to shrink the size of the EXT3 partition;

I used the Ubuntu LiveCD, booted to it with my memory card in a card reader, then used the included GParted utility to shrink it. This worked perfectly.

A couple of notes about the above process;

1) The standalone version of GParted doesnt seem to support many card readers and so may not detect your memory card, however the version in Ubuntu seems to work with all the card readers I have.

2) To resize the partition you will first need to unmount it from within GParted.

Thanks
