Guest Simon O Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 (edited) On the Android developers blog Google announced the new Android Market update. http://android-developers.blogspot.com/201...ent-update.html I've spent some time with this today and made some screen shots which I'll try and give some information about. Firstly, the new look: The main page, apps and games page have a carousel at the top showing some selected apps/games with a ticker-tape giving information about the app. My Apps looks cleaner but functionality is unchanged from previous versions. Application pages look a lot nicer and provide a lot more information. No additional tabs, everything is on one page. Information text and comments are shortened and can be completely viewed by pressing the 'More' button. Similar apps are now shown at the bottom of the app page. The three most popular are shown first with additional apps available by clicking 'More'. So far it works as expected. It was a little slow to start up first time but I don't know if this caused by the phone or the Google servers. The APK file can be downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868767 Android Central have a video online showing the new market. Edited December 11, 2010 by flibblesan
Guest rayraven Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Nice preview of the market. I'm running the r2 of your FLB rom, and i cant install the apk. Do i need to be rooted?
Guest Frankish Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Try pushing it from recovery via adb.
Guest Simon O Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 (edited) Yeah you need to push it to your phone or use one of the recovery zips provided at XDA, but make a backup first using recovery. update: apparently this only works if you are using ADW.Launcher Edited December 11, 2010 by flibblesan

Guest Sebastian404 Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 v2.2.6: • Refund window changing to 15 minutes • New carousel with featured apps on main page • Widgets and Live Wallpapers categories added • Related content added to app page • Single page app viewing, all info in one place • Max size for apk files increased from 25 MB to 50 MB Interesting, I though we would have to wait longer for this, since 2.13 only came out a day or so ago...
Guest olionair Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 ever since the similar tab i have been unable to update apps as they dont show up as installed on fibblesans 2.2 rom
Guest superkryo Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 The UI is regressive in my view. Scrolling is much slower than tabs.

Guest factro Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Force closes on start up for me Edit: fixed by clearing market cache and date and then rebooting this didnt work for me..:)
Guest robot1000 Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 I've installed it through recovery and the 'market' app has disappeared. How do I get it back? Managed to make it reappear, by installing it through 'Root explorer' Problem now is the 'force closes'. I've wiped cache and data and it then runs but after loading up some apps on the market, it crashes again. Is there any solution?
Guest factro Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Force closes on start up for me Edit: fixed by clearing market cache and date and then rebooting which ROM are you using now??

Guest alltheway3 Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Will we be getting this through normal OTA updates or is that not the case with custom ROMs?
Guest Sebastian404 Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Will we be getting this through normal OTA updates or is that not the case with custom ROMs? The 2.1 version will update OTA soon enough
Guest Simon O Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 flibblesan which ROM r u using?? Paul's Froyo MCR Alpha 4 from the kitchen.
Guest Simon O Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 ever since the similar tab i have been unable to update apps as they dont show up as installed on fibblesans 2.2 rom My ROM is based on the old leaked beta ROM so that's probably another bug.
Guest alltheway3 Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 The 2.1 version will update OTA soon enough I've got a custom 2.2 ROM though. What I am asking is will I have to download the new market via apk or will I get it OTA?
Guest Rem1x Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Flashed the ZIP, on Alpha 3 of the leaked ROM. This is what Honeycomb looks like, I called it.

Guest Simon O Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 Flashed the ZIP, on Alpha 3 of the leaked ROM. This is what Honeycombgingerbread looks like, I called it. Fixed it for you. It's actually the new Market for Gingerbread :) Remember when Google hired the UI guy who used to work for Palm? Android 2.3 is the result. Wouldn't surprise me if we see further improvements in other apps too.

Just got a few theories :) (also 3.0 will be the result of the Palm guy. this is just a taster. i'm standing by my point... i'm a designer, damn it)
