Keeping the screen clean

Has anyone found a way of cleaning the screen thoroughly so there is no fine film of grease on the surface? Tried small drop of neat washing up liquid which helps a bit but as you dry it the grease re-appears. It has been like this since I got it and unfortunately as the screen is so shiny it shows up every fingerprint and smudge so if I know a good way to clean it at least I can try to keep it looking pristine :)

I use microfiber lens cloths on all my touch screen devices. Have never found the need to use any cleaning fluids at all.

I use multi-purpose lens cleaner from costco, its pretty good and comes with free refills and a couple of nice big cloths. Really they are supposed to be for glasses but its pretty much the same job on a tablet.

Thanks for the suggestions which I shall try out soon. Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have to touch the screen at all and the built-in camera detected our hand gestures instead :)

That level of pattern recognition takes a lot of juice to run reliably. If you want to try making something up yourself some deionised water and a little citric acid is also a good DIY screen cleaner.

I've worked with computers for years and tried all sorts of screen cleaners, and after all of this I've found that the best (by a mile) way to clean any kind of screen is to use Furniture polish. Simple, cheap, furniture polish. It completely obliterates grease and fingerprints, wipes off easily, isn't watery, and the alcohol in it makes whatever is left on the screen after you have wiped it dry out almost instantly. Best of all it tends to leave a nice smooth film on the screen that prevents further fingerprints pretty well for a while after using it. Obviously be careful if your spraying strong polish onto your Vega though, you don't need much!

I had some Rain X wipes and tried them, I would say that because they are glass cleaners they clean just fine, but afterwards the grease off my finger don't seem to build up, this is only after testing for a short while

I use a screen cleaning cloth that I got with a screen protector many moons ago.

I wipe the Vega down after every use to prevent build up of any stubborn marks

Went and bought a bottle from Halfords today, £6.99 which is cheaper than I could find it for on Amazon!

Works a treat, cant believe how good it looks with this on, makes a noticable difference. I suffer from greasy paws so my vega after a couple of normal days use looks like its been rubbed on a rockabilly tramps head. Only had it on for a little while so far but its resisting fingermarks really well.

Not difficult to "fit" either, couple of mins to clean, apply, dry and buff and your done. Wont be a big hassle to put on regularly even if it doesnt last very long. And I have the added benefit of being able to treat my cars windscreens too! ;)

Thanks for the heads up Dayzee.

Guys...

don't use furniture polish (at least - all polishes are not created equal!) ... reason I say this is because some have micro-abrasives.

Personally I use a microfibre cloth. At best I may add (literally) 3 drops of water. It doesn't alleviate picking up oils and grime though.

Rain X - HMMMMmmmmmMMmmmmm ... easy hydrophobic layer? This I may try!

Just finished putting on a second layer as I've learnt it makes it even better than my feeble effort earlier. Blown me away how good this works. Will do an update after a days heavy use as my hands are pretty clean at the mo.

Ok ... done it to the Vega now.

Results - bloody impressive ;) ;) :D

NOBODY tell Rain-X of this discovery, soon as they catch on the price of the stuff would skyrocket, industry insiders may start using it too hehe :D ;) :D

It definitely doesn't work on plastics - the screenprotector on my Galaxy S looks worse.

Incidentally - one word of warning to add. I used a coloured microfibre lens cleaning cloth to apply RainX to the screen. I used a white lens cleaning cloth to buff it off. The white cloth was stained with the colour of the previous cloth. Whatever RainX does - it's strong and potent! I half wonder whether the isopropanol acted as a solvent (though I have used these with lens cleaning solution before without the same effect.)

Overall - do this!

Free and unlimited supply:

KFC 'Freshen Up' tissues.

Seriously, used these for years, you can carry a bunch around in your case, and they work a treat!

I used a regular monitor screen wipe and a duster to 'buff' it up afterwards............ the screen, not what some of you are thinking..

I concur completely. Standard lens cloth works a treat. Very wary of any cleaning fluid, even mild detergents. They all leave a residue. Need to make sure the cloth is clean thou - any small grit particles etc could cause a very nasty scratch.
