Few questions about the Avent Vega

Recommended Posts

I'm new to the whole android tablet thing. So I was going to get a Advent Vega when it sprung to mind that I have no idea how to use it. I could hack an apple product like theres no tomorrow, but android? I have a few questions regarding the Vega.

I heard it doesn't come with the android market, if this is true, I won't be able to install new applications? Meaning will i be stuck with default apps?

How easy is it to use?

When you buy it, is the default language english?

How do i update the android software?

How do i go about adding music and videos to my android, like on an apple product you sync it with itunes, but I'm confused with android.

Does it stream in HD?

How do you upgrade/How do you know when the software needs upgrading?

Thanks if you reply to all of these, I'm new to the forum and android in general :)

I am not the best person to answer this because my Vega is underneath the Christmas tree!! But I suggest you start here:

In reply to your questions from an also novice android user..

It does not come with android market but using Pauls custom made rom allows it to be added. Although you can also install apps direct from some website.

Default lang is english

You update via pc using the usb cable in the box.

You add files just by plugging it in and it can describe itself as a usb storage device.. drag and drop.

You know when to update by frequenting forums or if using stock rom using device upgrade part in settings

...

Streaming in HD i dont know.. but streaming in general is very good. I stream from a WD network drive and found it very responsive.. No lag, no lip sync issues, skipping through video works well.

I was an android virgin untill i got the vega 3 days ago, just read as much as you can about it on these forums,,,

Install the market mod from this site which is easy to do and then you can put whatever apps you want on it like itunes.

You dont sync it to your pc you just drag and drop your pics or movies etc to it so even easier

Using an app called gmote you can stream hd videos from your pc to the vegaa.and it can do everything the ipod touch can do but on a much bigger screen (angry birds is excellent fun

Hope this helps

get one if you can find one you wont regret it

By default the Vega doesnt include the market or any google apps, but installing the Modaco custom ROM adds all of these quickly and easily

When you buy it, is the default language english?

yes

How do i update the android software?

to update the Standard Vega software you download the firmware to the Devices MicroSD Card and select Software Update in the Settings Menu.

How do i go about adding music and videos to my android, like on an apple product you sync it with itunes, but I'm confused with android.

to Add music/Videos you can mount the vega as a Mass Storage Drive (Appears in my Computer) or use a program such as Doubletwist to sync

Does it stream in HD?

yes, as far as i am aware it can stream 720P through the HDMI port

How do you upgrade/How do you know when the software needs upgrading?

if you use the Modaco ROM (Recommended) updates will be shown on the website, for normal ROM you visit www.myadventvega.co.uk

Hope that answers your Questions !

Just read through the thread in the sticky threads in this forum, have a go at updating and if you get stuck make a post saying where you are stuck. There are plenty of us who can try to help.

No,sorry. The hardware in the Amico is very different. You may be able to sideload the market (load it directly to the Amico). Google will give you all you need) or it's only a matter of time before someone produces a nice simple hack for it.

Hi All

I bought a Vega yesterday and join the forum few days ago while searching informations on it. [Never used Android before]

I tried to install Paul's Rom but fail. I'm not really sure what I am not doing right.

I have followed Paul's instructions from: To install this ROM (without using ClockworkMod recovery), but nothing seems to happen.

All I get is this message from Terminal when double clicking on "adb-mac" ["install-mac.sh" comes as text] :

Last login: Wed Mar 16 17:51:46 on console

Welcome to Darwin!

/Users/macuser/Desktop/r8-vega-update-modacocustomrom-unsigned-1\ Folder/adb-mac; exit

[Macusers-Computer:~] macuser% /Users/macuser/Desktop/r8-vega-update-modacocustomrom-unsigned-1\ Folder/adb-mac; exit

tcsh: /Users/macuser/Desktop/r8-vega-update-modacocustomrom-unsigned-1 Folder/adb-mac: Exec format error. Binary file not executable.

logout

[Process completed]

I am trying to install the Rom from a Mac powerbook on Tiger [10.4]

r8-vega-update-modacocustomrom-unsigned

It seems so straightforward to do, yet ...

Any help welcome.

Thanks

Thomas

instead of double clicking adb can you try to drag and drop the install file in terminal and hit enter. (also make sure you have enabled usb debugging on your vega)
