What is the SD card used for?

My Blade has been complaining about running out of disk space, but looking at my SD card, it appears to be pretty much empty. Does the SD card get used for storing video/pictures/apps?

Thanks in advance.

It get's used for Music, Videos, Pictures and any other files (I think .apk files get stored her before installation?) and then apps are installed in phone memory unless you download app2sd or something like that :S

I'm on the stock 2.1 rom. Not brave enough yet to upgrade, but I suspect I will.

Seems a bit daft that there is a 2GB SD card in there doing - well - nothing at all! I'm wondering why it is not used by default.

2.2 saw that problem and fixed it :)

You could try A2SD, but its a tricky thing to get right : I would recommended the main MoDaCo Alpha 3 or higher - then install the Market APP to move anything you like across.

You WILL have to wipe and factory reset in Clockwork thou.....

What rom are you on?

If you have a 2.2 ROM then I suggest you install http://www.appbrain.com/app/move2sd-enable...installlocation Move2SD (needs superuser)

After that you can go into Manage APPS and move anything you like to the SD card - DONT DO WIDGETS or LIVE WALLPAPERS

Enjoy

I agree with this. Move2SD enabler (ROOT) is a fantastic app and if you use this then you have absolutely no reason to use the older A2SD. And Clockwork recovery will backup the apps installed onto the SD too so you don't have to worry when you make a full backup of your phone.

Set it to move all apps automatically to external but if you install any widgets or applications that need root you must move them to the phone or they won't work.

Just so you know - Backing up your 2.1 Apps in Titanium for a Re-install in 2.2. WILL NOT WORK

You have to get them all again.

You can quickly fill up 2GB with ROMs and Nandroid backups. :)

Just a quick question running pauls 2.2 alpha 3 rom atm.... i've got a spare 4gb class 6 card hanging around and i might give this app a whirl but will i need to partition the card like you need to for a2sd? or is just leaving it as 1 primary fat32 partition ok?

Yes just one fat32. Also install move2sd from the market

Me don't understand the above. I did exactly that today. Backed up my apps from stock 2.1, installed Paul's froyo alpha4 and restored my apps...

I wondered the same thing myself before upgrading the SD card. The card seems to also hold contacts, so probably a wise idea to copy the files across to any new card in case there is anything else that needs preserving like that.
