Guest Simon O Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Data2EXT requires ext4 which means it isn't going to work with any Froyo ROM. There is another script Data2SD which does work with ext2 so should be OK with stock kernels. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852219 This will almost certainly require a class 6 microSD card to run.
Guest IronDoc Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Is the performance boost significant Flib? Or is it just a jacked up test score in one aspect?

Guest cobhc Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Shame that screenshot wasn't from Quadrant Advanced, as I'm sure it's almost purely an I/O boost, which I'm not sure we'll see in real world usage.

Guest cobhc Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 (edited) http://www.miui-au.com/a-couple-of-data2ext-tests/ Hmm, seems there may be a performance increase in real world applications, up to 15% according to the first comment, unless I'm misreading things. I might be able to have a play with this tonight. Edited December 13, 2010 by cobhc
Guest kendon Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 the benchmark values are from his sdcard mounted on his pc, if i get that right. sounds more like a homeopathic thing to me.

Guest malooga Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 i've tried data2sd and data2ext on my desire and while it gave massive boosts to quadrant scores(io as somebody pointed out) it made no difference to real world use, i've now gone back to apps2sd+ as its a lot smoother for day to day use.

Thanks for confirming that. I did see something mentioned that it was similar to the lag fixes on the Galaxy S series phones, but I was never sure if that made any difference to real world use either.

Guest kendon Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 that's what i meant with homeopathical. there might be a measurable increase somewhere, but that doesn't mean it has any advantages for real usage at all. btw i am aware that you only linked to the post factro, by "he" i meant the creator of this hack.
Guest AndyHibberd Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 My phone is plenty fast as it is. Sounds a bit inflated too, apparently it's not real-world usage numbers. Purely statistical.
