Guest gambieter Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Hi been thinking about getting a palm pre how does this compare to the blade. Why compare apples and oranges? Look at the specs and make a decision. These two phones are really completely different. What have you found out yourself?
Guest steviem Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 It's not about the specs. I've been using a Pixi Plus and to be honest, the UI is pretty, but it has a lot of holes in the Apps department. There are no Sat-nav applications and not many companies are making apps for WebOS. WebOS has the best multitasking and synergy is nice (mixing SMS and IM together), but the apps in Android are getting to be a close 2nd place (rather than distant, in terms of quality and quantity) of iOS and this is what is making me like Android even more. WebOS has some good ideas, and I think the app switching is the slowest part (in terms of UI) in Android and iOS. In WebOS, you just slide your thumb/finger up from the gesture bar and flick between 'cards' (apps) and click on the one you want to use. However, Android can easily catch up to that, maybe with a 2 or 3 finger gesture.
Guest cjb110 Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Having just moved the other way! I'd say that the biggest thing is that WebOS is far more polished, and probably easier to use for a general person, or someone used to dumbphones. Personally I think it's better than iOS, as it's got the ease of use without the draconian limitations. However hardware wise its not great, esp at the premium o2 were charging for it. The biggest let down is the screen resolution, which is far to low for a modern smartphone...it made browsing pretty painful. Also no on-screen keyboard meant one handed operation was no go. It doesn't have the various other senors either, and nor did it have location support for the browser. So on a hardware/price ratio the blade wipes the floor with it, with build quality being about even. My other reason was the community, android has much more buzz and drive forward. I think HP will need to release further a number of very well built handsets sharpish for webos not to die a slow death. The strengths of the OS can't keep the entire brand alive.
