Guest heidthebaw Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 (edited) Hi guys, schoolboy error here! I thought I was on the 1.04 update but I'm only on 1.03. I'm running windows 7 and can't seem to egtt recovery mode to work. My Vega shows as a Tegra 2 disk drive and automatically installs as this when I plug it in. I try to over-ride the drivers but it just says the best drivers are installed. I Tried to force by `have disk` but it then says theyu are not 64 bit. When it's in recovery mode does the backlight come on and nothing else? Can get this but suspect because the pc is not seeing it this is the issue? Maybe I;m wrong and would be happy to be put right :) Edited December 13, 2010 by heidthebaw

If possible this is your best bet.

Guest rimoth Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 So when the screen is backlit is this then in recovery mode? No I don't think so. Follow the key combination 2 seconds, 2 secs, 2secs exactly.
Guest heidthebaw Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 No I don't think so. Follow the key combination 2 seconds, 2 secs, 2secs exactly. I've done that loads of times and nothing happens. So does anything happen on screen at all? I'm by no means a n00b but can't seem to get this to work :)

I would imagine your real issue here is not putting the device into USB Debugging to install the drivers for USB. I run Win 7 X64 so I've been through your pain (slightly) - the best suggestion I can make to you in resolving this is to have had the performance pack/rom downloaded and extracted to a folder in the root of C. Then extract the USB drivers zip file now residing in that folder (r1-tegrausbdrivers-modaco.zip). Now turn on your Vega as normal - ensure that it is plugged into the mains and then plug the USB cable (connected to your PC) into the tablet. It will switch to a screen with the green droid on it and a mention of turning on USB then ignore it - instead press the back button on your device so you are back on your home screen. Then go to Settings, then Applications, then Development and turn on USB debugging ...As soon as you do this your Windows PC will start banging on about new devices etcThen point the install prompt at the folder you extracted the USB drivers (r1-tegrausbdrivers-modaco.zip) to & install them. That should be you sorted for the drivers. Quite a few X64 users have had this issue and the key is to turning on USB Debugging while the Vega is plugged into your PC - forcing windows to see the hardware change. On the recovery mode issue, tackle this after the above and ensure that power is connected to the Vega, the Vega is powered off (not suspend - OFF) and leave the USB cable out while you put it into recovery. Then follow the instructions for putting the device in recovery mode. There is no physical sign you've got into recovery but, the install-windows.bat file will tell you soon enough. You just try it again if it fails and you will get it eventually. If you run through the Custom Mod / Performance Pack sticky thread you'll encounter every permutation of Vega Challenges and more importanlty the advice to see your right. I hope this helps in some way.

Guest TylerDurdenK Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Here is the sequence you need to put the Vega into the mode required for flashing the Advent 1.04 update. (not really a recovery mode) 0) Plug in the Vega to the power supply 1) Hold down BACK key 2) After 2 seconds hold down POWER key (keep back key held) 2) After 2 seconds (holding both keys) release POWER key. 4) After a further 2 seconds release the BACK key. The whole sequence should take 6 seconds.

It still sees it as a storage drive and even when trying to force the driver udate through have disk still doing it. Edit got it working now, used an old XP netbook I have. Thanks for your help guys :) Edited December 13, 2010 by heidthebaw
