Carrier specific Stock ROMS

Hello everyone.

I got my Desire HD on contract with Orange.

I have rooted it, and flashed the MCR which is great.

Some of the additional apps that were on the Orange stock ROM I quite liked, but I didn't bother taking a backup of the ROM, as I thought "it's brand new so if I don't like the MCR I can just do a factory reset"

Oops - a factory reset doesn't restore the original ROM, but just wipes the data and keeps the MCR. Tell me I'm not imagining it that this wasn't the case on my old standard Desire?

It's a minor irritation that I can't get those apps I liked, but it is more of a problem if I ever want to unroot my phone (say I need to return it) and get it back to shipping condition.

So my question is: is there anywhere I can download the Orange ROM?

When you flash a new ROM it erases the old one, always been this way. Doing a hard reset will reset the ROM currently on the handset

Great, that RUU works perfectly.

Now, does anyone know how I can extract the system apps from that ROM so I can back up the apk?

Root, download Android Commander (if you don't know how to use adb), Pull the APKs in question from the phone and keep them somewhere safe

Durr. I know full well how to use pull with adb. I just didn't think of it!!
