Fasboot on a partition/flash drive

Can fastboot be used on a hard drive partition or a USB flash drive as I don't particularly want to put it on my windows C drive.

Also are there any really easy guides to help a beginner install Froyo onto the San Fran as I'm completely new to Android. I kind of understand it but it seems quite daunting and I don't want to mess up my shiny new device.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Not sure why you would have a problem putting it on your c drive but yes you can run fastboot from elsewhere, it's pretty small along with the dll it depends on, however on windows you will have to install the USB drivers anyway which will of course be on your c drive
