Wifi refuses to connect

Bizarre problem with wifi on my Desire (MCR r9).

Recently, the "Wireless & Networks" settings app has stopped working. It shows me the list of networks, and lets me choose one; it tells me the signal strength and gives me a "Connect" button; but when I click "Connect", the dialog box disappears and nothing happens. It just doesn't connect.

I can connect to networks using WiFi Manager, so I know it's not a hardware problem. But it's annoying because I now need to connect manually to anything that "Wireless & Networks" doesn't already know about. If I go in range of a network that it already recognizes, it connects automatically, and there's no problem; it just seems that it's having problems adding new networks to its database of ones it knows (and so refuses to connect to them).

Anyone come across this before? Any ideas?
