Guest asb123 Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Hey guys, Ive looked around some posts and stickies but I have some questions: From my past experience flashing android roms goes like this: 1)Enter recovery 2)Wipe everything 3)Repartition ext 4)Flash Rom 5)Reboot Is it the same procedure with the liquid E? Also, I have been hearing the word bin a lot, what is it and where/how would I use it.
Guest asb123 Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I am going to be rooting on thursday and would really appreciate it if someone could clarify those questions for me before then. Thanks
Guest Harness Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 A bin is the the original OS released by Acer. You use Acer download tool v3.1 (find at http://www.lcr-team.org Under Downloads->tools) to flash it to your phone, then you flash a custom rom overtop. Then you install Malez, and run a rom installer over top. Furthermore, you only format ext2 for a2sd. Harness.
Guest HustlinDaily Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 (edited) Since you already have 2.2 installed, you do not need to flash a BIN (as I think all the ROMs here support any 2.2 bin). If you want to use apps2sd, you need a ROM which supports Apps2SD (ie. LCR or LiquidMetal) and you move apps (or apps/davlik) to SD through MalezRecovery (using the recovery is very straightforward, easy to use and packed with features. Easily the best recovery available for Liquid). Edited December 14, 2010 by HustlinDaily

Ok, and I would assume that flashing the bin is only needed after the first flash unless something goes wrong? Ok, also, after you move apps to the sd using malez, will new apps automatically move to sd or will I need to use recovery to move apps everytime I want them to go?
Guest Harness Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Ok, and I would assume that flashing the bin is only needed after the first flash unless something goes wrong? Flashing the BIN is required to update the baseband, and I like to do it between flashing roms as well as clearing my other partitions just to avoid potential issues. That is interesting. It changes the install path of apps, I do believe.

When I open the exe it says in big bold letters A1 tool, is this fine to use for the Liquid E as well? And where it says original image, is that where I insert the BIN I want to flash?
Guest jayziac Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Yes to both of your questions. v3.1 is the suggestd older version since it doesn't do region check. Most leaked roms now are for Liquid E 512MB by default, and have to modified to work on 256MB A1.

Look at the last few bins on this list. The one I use and a few others were released. The others are leaks. http://android.modaco.com/content/acer-liq...act-collection/ Now notice Some of them are EMEA some of them are AAP some of them are 256 some of them are 512. EMEA and AAP are region codes. 256 and 512 is the difference between liquid and liquid E. So for me in Canada 4.002.14.EMEA.GEN1_A22F_A (For Liquid E 512MB) is the sheet... Someone here suggested i try Root Explorer to move apps from the system partition to the data partition. It works great. But someone else here will have to confirm whether or not it will work for moving apps to sd. Edited December 15, 2010 by split2th

EMEA/AAP/CUS all come from Acer, they're just leaked to different people who release them here. My apologies for phrasing this wrong.
