NAND backup BEFORE rooting

Hi All,

I have just got my phone back from HTC after a warranty repair and it is pre-loaded with the latest Orange bloatware again. I will of course root and change this back to my preferred custom ROM but wondered if (and I have done some extensive searching both here and on XDA as well as with our good friend google) it is possible via ADB in BOOTLOADER, FASTBOOT or RECOVERY to do a full NAND backup of the devoce BEFORE I root it and UnrEVOked puts clockwordmod recovery on the device?

Can this be done with a NAND backup command line executable from the PC while using ADB?

Many thanks in advance (even to the flamers who wont read that I already searched and that asking here is a last check attempt for verification)

should be possible. If i remember correctly the first rooting-manual from paul used a "push-recovery" .. so it was possible to start a recovery on the phone wihtout actually installing it there.

I just yould not find the old threads and links - but maybe someone else can give a hint.

Thanks for the response. I think you are referring to fake flash created by Paul and koush however that still requires that the device already be rooted.

I was wondering if (with Pauls new inventions like temproot for the HD and Z) there was a temproot like thing I could use to perform the backup BEFORE i unleash unrevoked on to the device.

I was thinking temproot and clockworkmod recovery from update.zip but as soon as the device reboots the temproot will be gone.

He's not talking about fake flash, this predates that. I think he's talking about Paul's risk free root process which gets you into a custom recovery using adb without installing one and before rooting

Yep ... not talking about fake-flash.

Whe i rooted my desire ages ago it all started with running something on the pc - which actually started a recovery (that was pushed from pc to phone - NOT FLASHED) ...

Once you are there you can nandroid.

But it might be limited to older Hboots.

I guess someone who really understands how this was working has to comment ;-)

It's either root and then nandroid or root and hope an Orange RUU appears one day. You can't backup without root access at present
