Guest chillednotfrozen Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Hi this seems to be a fab site. Unfortunately the expertise of mos of the forum users is way beyond mine and I am confused. I have just bought and unlocked my SF and it seems that I need to change the ROM if it is going to be worth having. I have spent several hours reading the forum and watching Paul's youtube video called " Orange San Francisco Root + MCR install HD". The video starts by saying that I need three files, one of which is the MCRI Superboot fast loader. Where do I find this please? Also which ROM is recommended for a TFT san francisco for a newbie to android? He then says that he has extracted fastboot to "this directory". Which directory is he referring to and is it on the phone or the PC? He then says he has extracted "......mcri image" to "this directory". Which directory pls? I am sure that I will have lots of further questions but any ideas for these please? thanks for your help. john

Guest chillednotfrozen Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...and-other-roms/ thanks for the link, but which is recommended as non buggy, stable and good for a newbie? Any advantages/disadvantages of 2.2 over 2.1 etc? thanks again
Guest oh!dougal Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 thanks for the link, but which is recommended as non buggy, stable and good for a newbie? Any advantages/disadvantages of 2.2 over 2.1 etc? thanks again Anything beyond 2.1 is purely experimental at this point in time. A production 2.2 (and 2.2 source code) are due for release very soon, so things will change. Completely! And soon... If you are wanting something that works right now without quirks and yet opens you up to what putting on a different rom is about, try the latest Hungarian Hedgehog. Finnish Fillyjonk is even better, but it needs a couple of irritating kinks fixed in the distributed version. Give the developer another week or so. And for now, use Clockwork 2.5.0.9 rather than the newer one. Don't bother with Superboot, etc. That was the only way in the olden days, BC (Before Clockwork)...
Guest bogstandard Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 (edited) Read this first off: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...and-other-roms/ First which San Fransico do you have TfT or OLE screen What operating system is your computer using? With Windows 7 in order to get to the command prompt all one has to do is Press shift key ( the one on the far left immediately above the CTRL key) and simultaniously right clik on the file and select "open cammand window here" Then write or preferably wipe in the necessary text. Then press Enter key Edited December 14, 2010 by bogstandard

Which is the latest and easiest guide here to getting this all installed please? I take it that the video is not relevant any more.
Guest oh!dougal Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 ... Which is the latest and easiest guide here to getting this all installed please? Two folks have given you the link already! :) :)
Guest chillednotfrozen Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Two folks have given you the link already! :) :) thanks for confirming that the link above is the best. I have clicked on the hungarian hedgehog link which refers me to a link to install clockwork recovery. This then says: Step by step install instructions * Download 2.5.1.3 ClockworkMod Recovery for ZTE Blade - DOWNLOAD (ROMraid Load Balancing) - MD5: 0733acd513717f2dc7ee08809bd7ea20 * Download fastboot if you do not have it already. * Turn off your phone and take out the battery. Unplug the phone from the PC / charger. * Replace the battery and turn the phone back on with 'volume up' held. The device will stay at the 'green android' screen. * Plug the phone into the PC. * Extract the fastboot zip file. * From a command prompt (at the directory containing these new files!) run 'fastboot-windows flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.3-blade.img' (subsituting 'fastboot-mac' or 'sudo fastboot-linux' as required) * When this finishes, from the command prompt run 'fastboot-windows reboot' (again substituting 'fastboot-mac' or 'sudo fastboot-linux' as required) * Done! Sorry to be thick but into which device(PC or phone or SD card)/folder(do I just create one with a random name?) should I extract the fastboot zip file? I'm stupid but at least I know I am!

Firstly get the 2.5.0.9 Clockwork. Your first task is to get that flashed to your RECOVERY part of the phone The tool that does this is in the fastbootzip Extract the fastboot on your PC Get the phone in flash mode (Turn on with VOLUME UP held) it will stay at the green android Now plug in the phone and run the fastboot command to send the Recovery ROM to the phone then use the fastboot command to reboot. Now copy your chosen ROM to the SDCARD Boot into Recovery (holding VOLUME DOWN) on boot. Follow the instructions to install the rom PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE check to see if your phone is OLE or TFT Then pick a ROM that is supported (see table) http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...and-other-roms/

I extracted fastboot.zip into a folder c/android. I then added the img file to the folder and got the phone into flash mode but when I tried to run fastboot I just got the response "waiting for device" and nothing happened. Guest 5kops Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Press and hold the volume down button and then press and hold power button. Recovery should open right after the android logo.
Guest ssdlucas Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 A production 2.2 (and 2.2 source code) are due for release very soon, so things will change. Completely! And soon... Is there any more info on this in the Forum or elsewhere? And is it for OLED and/or TFT as we have one of each.
