Guest Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Ok just getting my head around the superb vega and this mod is great. Certain apps will uninstall easily through the apps settings, but others can be force quit but not uninstalled - dialler is the main culprit, how do i get rid of this? Also, when you close apps, how come they're still actually running? How do i stop apps running in the background? Many thanks folks.

Going into preferences/general/hidden Apps and selecting phone app and all the other bloatware (ebooks,Vega help..etc) which hides them from the app tray. Either that or removing the Apk from the systems folder but there's no guarantee it'd damage the Rom (is a system app). To stop running apps you can either stop the processes individually in settings/applications/manage applications/running applications or using the market for task manager app Edited December 14, 2010 by greenie-uk

I think it is needed by the system for some reason. I used titanium backup to uninstall it.

Guest warriorscot Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 If its in the system folder I would leave it be its probably there for a good reason so its best to leave it. As far as quiting apps there are a few alps for doing that however there are some arguments that using them is actually not doing you any favours.

Guest Pyr0x64 Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 (edited) you can remove the Phone and TelephonyProvider apks using something like Android Commander if you try to do it on the tablet with root explorer or titanium backup, you will get FCs as soon as you remove the first file and then be unable to remove the second the only negative i've noticed so far is a small signal strength meter in the notification bar with an x [edit] found a thread on xda in the viewsonic gtab forum the OP provides a simple update.zip script (to use in clockworkmod recovery) to remove four apks Phone.apk Mms.apk TelephonyProvider.apk VoiceDialer.apk Disable Cell Standby (increase battery life) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855812 Edited December 14, 2010 by Pyr0x64
Guest Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Thanks for the replies. Dialler seems to be always running in the bg, so is it actually using battery power? If the vega is left in standby overnight, it loses 5-10% battery charge- is this normal?

It may be, but a process list is _not_ the way to find out. Unlike your PC Android will terminate and restore processes as it deems necessary. And yes 5%-10% charge loss overnight is normal
