Gentlemen,

Fresh off the press, I present to you the beautiful Dolphin Browser Mini:

AppBrain

Android Police

Why is it so good you ask?

Well here's why it's good for me:

Fast. Very fast. the text re flow and screen orientation are some of the fastest I've ever seen in an android browser. The loading times are equally good, I haven't done a technical benchmark but it certainly isn't as sluggish as the HD version which I was disappointed with.

Features: There's loads of them, decent tabbed browsing, intelligent back button, I would assume it will get add-on functionality too so in the future you can expect such liquid gold as the LastPass plugin!

Full-Screen browsing! Finally, no need to have that bloody notification bar whilst browsing, really maximise your web experience (optional obviously).

Gestures: I don't use these but some people love them, gesture to navigate/shortcuts.

Speed Dial: Lovely launch screen when you open the browser.

Integration of various Google Services: New to me and something I will be using; quick launch box for various services such as your Google Bookmarks, Docs, News, Youtube. Synchronizes with Google Bookmarks (Not Chrome browser ones, but your Google account starred ones).

Private Browsing! Want to cover your tracks? Open an instance of private browsing and do all of the "secret-shopping" you need to.

It's just everything I could want from a mobile browser and more, considering it's still Beta this is certainly one to download.

Highly Recommended,

Andy

Happy with Opera Mobile but I'll have to check this out and see what all the fuss is about!! Was very disappointed with Dolphin & Dolphin HD but hopefully this'll be much better. I found HD to be too cluttered and clunky.

Been using the preview for the last week or so and very impressed with this browser, use this over Dolphin HD now.

Thanks for highlighting this. Looks really good and might just replace Opera Mini as my main browser. I take it this doesn't use the same server compression technology that Opera Mini uses? I'm a little sceptical of that anyway as I would think it would slow down loading small pages.

I wonder if 'private browsing' still lets all the Google crap work just the same. Kind of defeats the point of private browsing.

What are the main advantages over skyfire? As I'm very happy with skyfire atm, especially with the feature to view flash videos...

I ignored this because I thought it was the same naming scheme as Opera Mobile and Opera Mini (i.e. the actual full browser vs. something that renders pre-processed pages for low-end phones). But looking at their comparison matrix it has all the features I actually want plus some extra speed compared with HD which was geeky (in a good way) but slow, particularly when using the back button.

Thanks for the "heads up" :)

I was using Opera Mobile after trying out all the others. I wanted one with a fast pinch and zoom, and Opera Mobile seemed the best until Dolphin Mini came along.

There are several problems with Opera. Firstly it takes up so much space, secondly the zoom is pixelated at first, and thirdly it didn't seem to render small fonts correctly on some pages. Dolphin Mini doesn't seem to have these problems.

not bad.

However, is there a way to disable the 'mobile' setting when visiting web sites.

I much perfer the look of sites in there proper format rather than their cutdown 'Modile' version.

The BBC site is a prime example of this.

I think so. Press Menu, choose "User Agent" then select "Desktop"

Does that do the trick?

Hmmm... it does struggle with the full BBC site. The scrolling and zoom aren't so smooth. It just seems to be the front page though. I guess it's really complicated, subpages seem smooth.

I'm patient.

Waiting an extra 20 seconds isnt going to annoy me at all.

Now, how do i make it the default browser? The Internet link on the bottom right of the LauncherPro menu always brings up the phones default one.

ah-ha - sorted it. (Hold down the icon to change the app)

Long press the internet icon, then change shortcut, then Applications. Choose Dolphin in there.

You can also change the icon similarly.

Its a lot slower than Opera Mobile for me - I shall be sticking with that for the time being.....

Opera mobile is also a lot smoother at pinch to zoom.

Maybe you've tested it out on more sites than me, but I've uninstalled Opera Mobile (for now at least). I'm saving about 14MB of space by doing so. Dolphin will do until the next browser improvement comes along.

Apps2SD sorted that. Opera seems to run just as quickly from the SD card.

Seems pretty good, i like the feature to change between tabs with the volume buttons but the loading of pages is very slow, so i'll continue to use Opera Mobile (hopefully it will also get support to put cache on sdcard soon).

You mean porn right?

And the gestures bit is brilliant!
